Good food and free entertainment

Next Thursday, March 30 starts the 2007 Honolulu Family Festival at Magic Island at Ala Moana Park.  The festival runs four days from March 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 2007.  The event is free.  They also have free parking and shuttle to Magic Island from downtown.

Not only is it a great time to spend with family and friends, it's for a good cause.  Money raised will go toward the upkeep of the ...

Want to see Hawaii's sea life up close?  Spend a day at Sea Life park.  You can swim with dolphins and see Hawaii's marine life up close and personal.  If you don't want to get wet you can still watch dolphins perform in an open air theatre.

Ka'Iwi hiking, whales, blowholes and more

If your cruising down Kalanianaole Hwy on the east coast of the island there are many scenic spots.  One stop you should make is Ka'Iwi state park just before Sea Life park.  Ka'Iwi is also a prime spot for whale watching.  And it has it's own blowholes! It's a nice little hike along the main road once you get inside the park, or if you're more adventurous take hike along ...

Aloha Stadium Sports Carnival

Took the family out to the Sports Carnival at Aloha Stadium tonight. It was raining, but as tomorrow is a work day for me, we decided to go out anyway. The Sports Carnival is a carnival to benefit the Hawaii Youth Sports Federation and the rides and games are typical carnival stuff. What I mean to say is simply that it is not a sports themed ...

Happy Hour in Downtown Honolulu

Since my friends and I all work in downtown Honolulu, we are always searching for a good happy hour.   We've tried several different places and these are our recommendations depending on the mood we are in:

To people watch and for a hipper atmosphere, we head on over to Indigo's.  Because of it's close proximity to the financial district of Honolulu and Chinatown, Indigo's is always bustling with business people and students from nearby HPU.  It's a great place ...

Genki Sushi Ala Moana-pretty good but be careful!

If you're shopping at the Ala Moana Center and have a craving for some sushi, I suggest you try Genki Sushi.

Even though we were a group of 6 people, we sat comfortably in a booth. It should be noted that two in our group were my kids, aged 6 and 3. I would think 4 or 5 normal sized adults should be alright.

We got there around 6 ...

Honolulu's Local Fusion Cuisine

Nestled in the heart of downtown Honolulu Indigos Restaurant is an oasis of tropical ambiance, mouth-watering fusion cuisine, and one of the best happy hours in the islands.

The dimly lit red brick hallway at the entrance does little to prepare patrons for the Zen-like atmosphere within. The hovering white paper lanterns overhead add a warm glow to the dark wood furniture with Indonesian accents. In the Opium Den, the corner ...

What Is Up With These Chickens?

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the beach.

picture-348.jpg

Don't get the joke? You will if you plan to visit Hawaii anytime soon.  Hopefully, on your visit to Oahu, you plan to rent a car and drive around the island.  There is life outside Waikiki and it's beautiful on the other shores.  But when you do, you're going to come across an unusual ...

Hawaii Children's Discovery Center

Looking for a nice place the whole family can enjoy, especially the kiddie's?  Discover the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center.  In this interactive setting kids can really explore and learn.  Don't touch is not the rule in this museum, in fact using all the senses is encouraged.  The center has galleries filled with hands-on exhibts where they can learn about themselves and the world around them.

You can even host a birthday party or ...
