Hawaiian Potty Seat of Gold

I recently purchased the most expensive potty seat in the Islands. Traveling through Honolulu on our way to The Big Island of Hawaii, we realized that we had forgotten the all important potty seat for my son, the kind that fits onto a grown-up sized toilet. He will not go potty without it, as we learned on a shorter trip to Seattle.

That was the beginning of the odyssy from a ...

Books Are Fun!

If you enjoy reading and book fairs then this blog is for you.  I recently stumbled along a book fair downtown one day and found all sorts of great books and gifts. I spoke to Bonnie Kuchler who runs the book fair.  She sets up at different sites around town on different dates which I will post at the end of this blog.

How's it in Honolulu, The North Shore Experience

How's It in Honolulu, The North Shore Experience

Word of the day:  Mahalo

Translates to thank-you.  It's that simple.  Just say, "ma-hah-loe" to thank someone.

If you want to take a day trip away from the concrete and noise of Waikiki, jump in the car and head up to the North Shore of Oahu.  The "country" as locals call it, is just that.  Rural communities dot the shoreline and give you a genuine ...

Best Girls' Getaway in Honolulu!

If you're looking for a memorable Hawaiian experience which doesn't scream "couples only", try the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa in Waikiki.  Centrally located within the heart of Waikiki the Hyatt offers an excellent vacation.

Currently I'm viewing the city lights reflecting off the waves of the shore from my 29th floor hotel balcony.  (Every room has a balcony offering city or ocean views.)  A talented local band plays a variety of hits ...

Best Cup Of Coffee In Town!

Best cup of coffee in town?  Starbucks?  Nope.  It's brewed at the Gift & Gourmet shop on Merchant Street - 212 Merchant Street to be exact, in the hallway next to the Subway.   This is a very quaint little gift shop full of interesting treasures but they specialize in gourmet coffee, teas, and chocolates and is owned and operated by Celia Kim.

I first heard of this little gem ...

Freebies in Honolulu

If you live in Honolulu you know how expensive it can be.  If you just arrived or plan on moving here be prepared for some sticker shock when you see some of the prices (unless you come from an expensive city to begin with).  When I moved here going on two years my sitcker shock lasted quite a while.  Now I'm more used to the prices but I still love to ...

Favorite Shopping Places at Ward Centers

Located along Auahi Street between Ward Avenue and Kamakee Street in Kakaako, the Ward Centers is a popular spot for shopping that attracts locals and tourists alike. You can find large, mainland retailers such as Pier 1, Nordstrom, Ross, Borders and Quiksilver/Roxy, local retailers like Crazy Shirts, T&C and HIC, and specialty shops like Brookstone and Franklin Covey. But my favorites are the smaller, less well-known shops like ...
