Best Girls' Getaway in Honolulu!

If you're looking for a memorable Hawaiian experience which doesn't scream "couples only", try the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa in Waikiki.  Centrally located within the heart of Waikiki the Hyatt offers an excellent vacation.

Currently I'm viewing the city lights reflecting off the waves of the shore from my 29th floor hotel balcony.  (Every room has a balcony offering city or ocean views.)  A talented local band plays a variety of hits on the pool terrace below.  They're good, very good, makes me want to dance to my favorite songs.  On the beach I see a colorful hula performance entertaining passersby.  Several levels of lobbies below me offer endless dining, nightlife and shopping.  Good shopping, not just chintzy hotel shopping.  Stores such as "Jai" with fine lingerie and "Le Lotus Bleu" for trendy clothing.

The true gem of the property is the spa.  Naho'ola Spa takes pride in offering traditional Hawaiian treatments as well as those influenced from around the world.  The treatment menu offers such experiences as the "Macadamia Nut Bodyscrub", "Pineapple Papaya Soak" and the "Hawaiian Noni Wrap".

Check-in and parking was uneventful.  Service has been impeccable.  As soon as I stepped inside the room I received a call from the front desk asking if everything was to my liking.  The bellman brought ice!!  I LOVE it when they bring ice.  He discovered the minibar wouldn't open and called an engineer who was in and out in 5 minutes.  (And yes, I did eat the "King Size Snickers Bar". )  I also discovered guava nectar and vodka from the minibar mixed with fresh fruit from In-Room Dining is a refreshing drink.  The club sandwich was very tasty too.

The room is decorated in peaceful green tropicana.  Two lovely beds, one nightstand with dual reading lamps, sitting chair with ottoman, desk and chair, tv cabinet, nice large mirror, small coffee maker and a live plant.  Vanity sink area large enough for two.  Small basic bathroom.  Basic, not luxury like newer properties.  Clean, but maybe in the need of updating....if there was space for it.

The final reason I recommend this for a girlfriend or guyfriend trip is....it is LOUD!  The noise from entertainment mixed with the city sounds continued well past 2am.  (Not to mention the rowdy boys next door.)  Guest rooms feel close together and anytime someone comes and goes it sounds like they are entering your room.  The front desk was very kind and although they had no other room options the helpful lady went out and bought me earplugs.  Not conducive for work or romance.

It is now morning with the sun rising over Diamond Head.  I look out across the second Hyatt tower to see my neighbors joining me in the view of the waking coastline.  Aloha to another beautiful day.  Somewhere a church choir sings....and a large parrot screams???  Waikiki is certainly full of life!
