Freebies in Honolulu

If you live in Honolulu you know how expensive it can be.  If you just arrived or plan on moving here be prepared for some sticker shock when you see some of the prices (unless you come from an expensive city to begin with).  When I moved here going on two years my sitcker shock lasted quite a while.  Now I'm more used to the prices but I still love to find ways to find bargains.

I discoved a site called Freecycle just before I arrived here and I just love it!  Freecycle is worldwide with state, city or regional chapters.  Instead of selling goods to ebay, throwing it away, or giving it to charity, people post what they have to give away.  You can also put in a request, say if you're looking for a purple lampshade.  If someone has a purple lampshade they don't want they will email you that they have one and you make arrangements to pick it up from them.  It's absolutely free.

When I first moved here I had no transportation.  I was looking for a bike to get around with, I thought about Freecycle.  I posted a request if anyone had a decent bike to give away.  The next day someone emailed me with a bike.  I have a car now so I now longer needed the bike so it got Freecycled to someone else.   I check Freecycle almost daily to check for good deals.  I've seen all kinds of things people have given away free, from cars to computers.  I've even seen a boat advertised.  But if you want something you have to act fast because as soon as you see it posted it's gone that fast.

Here's the link to the Honolulu Freecycle chapter http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FreecycleHonolulu/.  If you're looking for bargains check Freecycle you never know what you'll find.
