The Most Romantic Hotel Room in Waikiki
Recently I had the opportunity to stay in the most amazing room in Waikiki at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider (soon to become a Westin). Now I've stayed in this hotel many times, only this time I found THE room, the kind of room honeymoons were made for!!! Take note- run to your phone and book specifically the "Historic Banyan, Ocean View Room, facing Diamond Head".
When you first arrive at the hotel you will be entranced by its charming sophistication. The white pilars of the formal drive are bordered by "old world" rocking chairs slightly waving to you an invite to relax after the long flight. Beyond the front doors is the elegant setting of a Waikiki left behind. Immediately you'll see the antique courtyard with the famous ancient banyan tree shading the whole area. Then wait! Nothing will matter except that VIEW! The ocean in contrast the the white of the building is awe-inspiring and only a few feet away. You will quite possibly be moved to peel off your shoes to dip your yearning toes in the ocean immediately!
If you make it to the front desk you will be greeted with a fresh purple orchid lei, chilled guava juice and a warm, wet face cloth. At this point you will be trying to calculate if it is possible for you to retire here forever.
A brief warning- when you walk into your room don't hate me. Yes, it is small. And the bathtub/shower combo is small in a strange triangular shape. Put your luggage on the bed then walk to the white plantation shutters on each wall of the room. Open the shutters. Out one window is white sand, clear ocean and the world famous landmark Diamond Head. Out the other window is OCEAN! Ocean, ocean, ocean. Beautiful jade ocean merging with the depths of colbalt blue. And the waves! Hear the thunder of the waves. Watch the whitewash. You'll definitely feel the illusion of a being on a cruise ship with the ocean surrounding you. Yes, now is the time to start writing me that thank you note.
The room also offers a TV, robes, room service (small dining table for two) and a comfy queen bed with a mirrored headboard. You figure out the rest! ; )
