Taking A Scenic Drive Around Oahu

January 24, 2007
Aloha,
One of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy Oahu's scenic landscape is to take a leasurely drive around the island. Except for the cost of gasoline and a meal along the way (or you can pack your own meal and keep it "refrigerated" in a cooler), it doesn't cost you anything to have fun with this activity.
I woke up the other morning and looked out at the beautiful day and decided to take a drive around Oahu. I live on the Leeward side of the island, so that's where I began my journey.
The drive on the highway to the North Shore was nice. It was a relatively cool day, so I decided not to use the air conditioning in my car.
It's always nicer to let the tradewinds blow through the car and take in the sights, sounds and senses of the island --- such as the sweet fragrance of plumeria or gardenia.
After passing through Wahiawa on the way to the North Shore, the scent of pineapple wafted in the air as I observed fields of the crop.
Once over the hill, I enjoyed a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean stretching to the horizon --- a glimpse of the world famous North Shore --- possibly the surfing mecca of the world.
January marks the start of the winter season of large waves on this shore. Well, I have to go now, so I'll be back later today to continue this posting.
Mahalo,
Keoki
