Living in Decatur, Georgia

Living in Decatur, Georgia is a true delight!  This is a cozy, close-knit community that's just a fantastic place to live, work and play.  I've lived in a host of cities across America, and find that my favorite places maintain a nearly impossible balance--they're small enough that I know the grocery clerks by name, but large enough that I always find something interesting to do.  Decatur is definitely that kind of place.

When I'm running errands, shopping or dining in town, I'll often run into someone I know and we'll spend a couple of minutes catching up before resuming the task at hand.  This familiarity makes Decatur feel like a safe and warm town, and I find that these brief encounters add an extra 'quality of life' element to what might otherwise be just monotonous errand-running.

Living in Decatur, I've met an absolute wealth of fantastic people, and you'll learn a little more about some of these folks in other postings.  Suffice to say, Decatur represents a fantastic mix of people....single and married, young and old, students, retirees, professionals, and artists; black, white, asian, hispanic; gay and straight; it's kids pulling skateboard tricks on church steps and folks chatting on street corners....Decatur is really that nebulous 'melting pot' that America is touted as being, but doesn't really seem to materialize in too many places.

This snapshot of daily life in Decatur can only skim the surface of what it means to be a part of this community.  And that's really what it is--we don't just live here, we're each a part of the town.  It's an indescribable that, like the Justice once said, you know it when you see it.
