Today is a nice, warm day. If you're like me, it's a perfect day for shopping and looking for some unique furniture finds. I meandered through the winding streets, looking at the chic boutiques and passing them by. They were pretty, but they didn't reflect my personal style. Just then, I saw a neon sign that read The Loop, Pizza Grill. Suddenly I had a taste for pizza. Coupled with the increasing traffic, it was all the motivation I needed to stop and give it a try.

Once you get over the typical Buckhead style, it's a fun place to hang out. Because I love lofts, I decided to eat upstairs. Might I add, a great for kids! (There are three xbox games there for their entertainment). The colors at least are just as playful--from the olive green color dominating the walls to a buttery yellow in the backdrop. The gentle breeze permeated the loft through the large windows, making it so light and airy. What a great view of Buckhead (...and its ever present high-rise construction). The oversized comfy booths nonchalantly asked me to stay a little while longer.

And the pizza is worth the wait. I ordered an 8" indy (for individual) on thin crust, which was plenty for me to eat. It is moderately priced, but somehow I didn't mind spending a little more for the experience. I never thought I would like calamata olives, roasted garlic, or pesto on a pizza but I found myself loving the unique tastes of an eccentric pizza! This is a great place to go and watch the Peachtree Road Race.

After a day of rollerblading in the park, we grabbed a bite to eat at Cowtippers. It looks just as fun as it sounds! A cross between a rustic and whimsical farmhouse, Cowtippers has plenty of stuff to distract a toddler-- from the cool cow artwork to funky wood tables. Even the booths make a statement, decked out in diary cattle decor! It is very kiddie friendly, although I get the impression that it's more for enthusiastic intellects and hippies who are there for happy hour. They began to sprinkle in as light turned to dusk.

No matter who you bring, you'll want to have more than pocket change as the menu is moderately priced. Only three items on the menu (burgers) were below $7. The other items like steak or shrimp costs about $11.95 and up. Martinis and wine were $6 a glass. One good thing is that the kid's menu is economically priced--under $5 with drink and a cupcake included! He seemed to enjoy it, but for me the burger was a little bland. It's better to bask outside at the Cowtippers spot and enjoy the spunky atmosphere.

Tucked inside the eclectic neighborhood that surrounds Piedmont Park, is the American Roadhouse, located at 842 North Highland Avenue. Don't be alarmed when you see the canary yellow building that somehow holds its own (for over 16 years) in the eccentric Virginia-Highlands. Here your gonna find a great mix of people who have these things in common: good laughs and great American-style food. Fridays are usually its busiest days although everyday there's a comfortable gathering of people. Kids are welcome--grass stains and all. Relax...the wait-staff will serve you just as casual, with their polite southern charm. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, either. Crab Benedict is one of my favorites. For under $10, I could order almost anything on the menu! And did I mention that you get generous portions too? (You're guaranteed to need a "doggie bag").

A few years ago my friends and I (both men and women) decided to do a little something different for Valentine's Day.

Okay, the truth is we all waited until the last minute to book our dinner reservations for Cupid's big night. And although we looked all over town, we couldn't find openings anywhere. In a panic for something to do, we came across this little place called "Shakespeare's Tavern." It was playing "Romeo and Juliet," and since nothing screams Valentine's Day quite like star-crossed lovers, we figured we'd give it a try. Besides, we didn't have anything else to do ... and there was no way it would be crowded.

How wrong we were!

From the moment we arrived we knew something was up. The place was packed! People were lined up outside just waiting to get in. After we descended the stairs into what appeared to be the basement of the building, we were greeted by dark wood, rich ruby-red tapestries, and sweet aromas escaping from the kitchen. The sets were beautiful, the acting impeccable, and the food delicious. This was unlike any theater we had ever been in. It seemed as if we had stepped back in time to "Fair Verona." The costumes were hand-crafted and the music was live. There were actual sword fights, and the actors literally were within arm's reach. At the back of the theater was the "Tavern," a true British pub with a menu of authentic pub foods, Irish ales, and other assorted drinks. It was by far one of the neatest things we ever did in this city.

They've since remodeled and renamed to The New American Shakespeare Tavern, and their productions are new and improved, as well. So if you're looking for something to do this Valentine's Day (or any other time of year, as the productions vary), feel free to check it out.

You won't be disappointed!

Nestled just off of Interstate 75 in a condo complex a few minutes north of the I-75/85 split, Joel provides patrons with a modern, almost minimalist environment to enjoy wonderful food and a terrific wine selection. Even though the tables and couches can be a little close at time--you may come to know the party next to you better than you'd hope--the artistry of the cuisine will be the only thing talked about at the end of the evening.

French food with Asian and Mediterranian influences is the forte of Chef Joel Antunes. The menu changes regularly with new tastes making their way into the fold. Still, I find my way back to whatever iteration of steak finds its way to the menu.

If there, also check out the 65 seat bar/lounge. If you arrive at the right hour or without reservations, you may not have a choice. Still, the bar carries a choice selection of spirits to tide you over until the experience begins in earnest.

Atlanta has a vibrant shopping scene, from the most common retailers like WalMart to specialty shops, to high end retail like Dillards. For an eclectic array of retailers, I would first recommend that one should check out the Camp Creek Market Place.
Taking 285 west bound past the airport to exit 2 will take you to this This gigantic shopping complex boasts a Target, an Old Navy, a Pier One, a Barnes and Noble, a PetsMart, a Wachovia banking center, a BJ's wholesale store, and various electronic specialty shops from GameStop to Wolf Camera and video. Additionally Camp Creek also boasts a rather diverse palate for those who are also looking to grab a bite to eat. Check out Red Lobster if you've got more expensive taste, but if you're looking for more inexpensive fare, try the ever popular Panda Express or another Atlanta staple, Chic Fil-A. There are other sorted restaraunts, both fast food and sit-down, that should more than satisfy a hungry shopper...

The next retail complex that is sure to please more of the high end crowd can be located off 17th street in midtown Atlanta. Welcome, patrons, to the greatly anticipated, wildly popular retail megacenter, Atlantic Station! One of Atlanta's newest shopping complexes, Atlantic Station boasts a variety of stores, including a Dillards, DSW shoes, Z Gallery (a high end home accent store), an Old Navy, a Publix (grocery store) and the internationally acclaimed IKEA! For the kids, there is a Regal 16 movie theater. If all that shopping makes you hungry, check out The Strip, Fox Sports Grill, Doc Greens, BoneHeads, or Cold Stone Creamery, just to name a few. Another perk to choosing Atlantic Station is that it is very MARTA friendly. Patrons can ride MARTA to the Art Center Station (N5 on the Rail Map) and then as they exit the MARTA station, they can ride the Atlantic Station shuttle for free. The shuttle makes stops at various points throughout Atlantic Station in both the commercial and residential sectors. That's all for now people... Happy Shopping!
