Kennedy Snafu Revisited

For those of you who are still trying to figure out how to get around Kenndy to get downtown, the easiest way is to go left on Howard to right on Cass.

To get to points north, take MacDill to Columbus and catch Florida - or MacDill further up and go from there.

Coming from N. Tampa, just take Tampa Street (if you are in the habit of taking Tampa Street ...

Legendary Amphitheater Closing?

Rumor has it that the gem of 7th Avenue in Ybor City, Santoro's Amphitheater Entertainment Complex, will be closing its doors at the end of this month. With its rotating dance floor, amazing light show, and famous DJs every Saturday night, it quickly became one of the best clubs in the Tampa Area for many people. Fans of dance music will be saddened to see this club go, but hopefully ...

Kennedy Snafu

They are (and have been) fixing up Kennedy Boulevard. "Work" traffic is crazy! At least, when it's done, it will be nice to drive over a smooth road, instead of a raggedy pothole riddled road. Save some time and take alternate routes through Hyde Park and West Tampa.

Wear Sunscreen

Once upon a time, Kurt Vonnegut didn't say:
Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '97: Wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been probed by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than ...

Noooooooo!!!!

This Tampa Bay blogger is seriously bummed.

It's bad enough that Clearwater institution The Junction closed this past Tuesday. Or, that my downtown indie coffee house Constant Cravings is closing at the end of April.

I've just learned that The Majestic, one of my favorite local music venues, quietly closed their doors for good last week.

Downtown Clearwater has lost two music venues and two indie coffee houses (The Junction was both) in ...

$10 or Less-- Kids Firehouse Museum

$10 or Less is a regular feature that highlights fun things to do in the Tampa Bay area that cost no more than $10 per person--and usually much less.

Anyone who has children known one thing for certain: Kids love fire trucks. They like the design, the sounds and the colors of a giant truck.

The Kids Firehouse Museum in Largo doesn't have a fire truck--they have 12 of them, and not a fire ...

Raging bull

No bull about it, The University of South Florida is getting a real, live mascot.

Appropriately, it’s a Brahman bull, named Rocky.

If all goes as planned, the giant cow should make its way onto the field of play beginning in the 2007-2008 school year. And it will be the official mascot of the school, who’s animal icon is the bull.

The bullish idea was that of John Massaro, who grew up in ...
