Wear Sunscreen

Once upon a time, Kurt Vonnegut didn't say:

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '97: Wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been probed by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Today, I'd like to echo the advice someone who is not Kurt Vonnegut so sagely gave: sunscreen.

You see, I took my girls to Honeymoon Island (a beach I will write about in more detail another time) and somehow managed to miss my entire right hip and leg while applying sunscreen. And now, I am a tender, peeling mess.

It was a partially cloudy day, but those are really the most dangerous. You're cooler, so you don't think the sun is doing any damage.

Don't be fooled.

Florida sun is some of the most direct sunlight you are likely to encounter in the continental US. If you're going to be outside, heed a hoaxer's sincere advice: trust me on the sunscreen.
