Tour 'de Home
This weekend, the ladies and gents of Old Hyde Park are putting on an event that comes around every so often. Not quite regular or once a year, but definitely something that has become a staple. In the past I have gone on a kitchen tour. While limited to one room, it is AMAZING what can be done in there. And if you are smart you realize that a front door does not open to a kitchen. As such you get a peek into the home via your trek to the kitchen. This weekend's though is a full on tour of the entire abode.
The Home Tours are not to be missed. I know they do them in other neighborhoods from time to time as well. It does not hurt that Old Hyde Park is home, literally, to enormous homes and estates. All vintage and most preserved. They are decorated to a tee, with a combination of decorating styles and tastes. All keeping the original frames and playing off their inhabitants ideas. It does not matter what your taste is, because all the homes are well done. And more importantly, they are open to the public. Well open to the extent you need to purchase a ticket. The proceeds go to sponsoring these like events. But it is worth the dollars, if not to indulge our societies voyeuristic tendencies. Reality TV is what it is today for that reason. This gives you the ability to touch, taste and feel, the way the other half lives. And they live in impeccably styled homes open for your viewing Saturday March 10, 2007 from 10 to 2.
