Lucky Dill

To me it is the music that I enjoy about being at the 'Dill. As we call it. The Lucky Dill. Located in the Colonial Bank Building on Tampa Avenue in downtown Tampa. A mainstay and popular business district lunch spot. Also open for a NY style deli lunch on Saturday afternoons. They are "the" place to lunch downtown and you are guaranteed to see someone. If you know someone that is. Really if you work downtown, you have gone to the Dill. Mixed amongst the suits and ties are University of Tampa students enjoying the affordable and hearty meals and the all-you-can-eat salad bar. My go-to mainstay. But they are also known for their monstrous mile high sandwiches, pastrami included. It is styled after a typical Manhattan Deli, with excellent Matzo Ball soup, brisket sandwiches, blintzes and pictures and tributes to the Big Apple gracing the walls.

But like I said, to me it is the music. A constant stream of a 60's mix, blasting from the sound-speaker to give you a needed break from the hum drum work day. Standing in line waiting to fill my plate with salad, I jam to the sounds of Neil Diamond. Nothing like that beats a mid-day meal and no other restaurant has that to offer. Not downtown at least. That and the perfectly ventilated building means no food hair to torture you for the next six hours of the day. And don't forget to check out the pastry counter. Their chocolate chip cookies are heavenly. I have known some to consume a dozen on their own. Though beware of the black and whites. While these may be a mainstay in Jewish institutions on the island of Manhattan. Here they are just sugar cookies with black and white frosting. Save your calories. There is a ton of other great food to splurge on and they recently added breakfast, for a quick stop in on your way into the office.
