Spring Training Arrives in Tampa Bay
Hear the crack of the bat! Listen to the cheering crowds! Smell the popcorn and hot dogs! Feel the warmth of the Florida sunshine on your skin! It must be that time of the year again . . . Major League Baseball Spring Training has come home to Florida!
Four teams call the Tampa Bay area their spring training home: New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, and of course, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Players started reporting to their teams in mid-February and most games begin at the end of February beginning of March. The spring training season ends by the end of March just before the start of the regular season.
The New York Yankees training complex and field are within the city limits of Tampa. Their games are played at Legends Field, which resembles Yankee Stadium in New York.
The Philadelphia Phillies make Clearwater their home with games played at Bright House Networks Field. Just a short 20 minute drive west of Tampa.
Dunedin is the winter home of the Toronto Blue Jays. Their ballpark is Knology Park and is about 26 miles west of Tampa.
And last, but certainly not least, our hometown Tampa Bay Devil Rays make St. Petersburg their spring training and regular season home. Spring training games are played at Progress Energy Park located on the waterfront in downtown St. Petersburg.
