Latin music comes to Bush Gardens in Tampa this weekend.  The Who is performing at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sunday, March 25.  On Tuesday, March 27,  the Florida Orchestra Brass Quintet performs in the Palladium in St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg is the place to be during these 3 days of events from the Indy Car Series, Indy Pro Series, Concerts, interactive attractions and family entertainment.  This year they are adding the LeMans Series to the excitement.

Qualifying will be held on Friday, March 30^th.  The Indy Pro 40 lap race will be on Saturday at 2:30PM followed by the American LeMans Series race for 5 to 7:45 PM.  Sunday, April 1^st, the 40 lap Indy Pro Series race will be held at 11:30 AM.  The 100 lap Honday Indy St. Pete Race will be at 2:45 followed by a post race concert.

It is located at 1000 3^rd Street South.  Six different live bands will be performing throughout the day.  Festivities begin at 11 and run until 8PM.  The adjacent gallery is open 9:30 AM until 7PM.  The outdoor celebration is free.  The admission to the gallery is $7, children under 12 are free.  It is an exciting exhibition of Dali's work.  Even the gift shop is renowned for its treasures and a popular place to get that extra special present for a birthday, Christmas or other occasion.  Come join in some surreal fun.

The Don CeSar stands majestically like a large coral sandcastle welcoming visitors as they cross the Pinellas Bayway and arrive on St. Pete Beach.  The "Don" has become a recognized icon for St. Pete Beach all over the world.

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding held here.  It was more spectacular than any I have seen in a movie or on television.   The couple took their vows on the beach as the sunset over the Gulf behind them.  The sky turned beautiful shades of crimson, pink and purple before the stars filled the darkened sky.  A spectacular fireworks display following an amazing reception topped off the fairytale experience.  After witnessing this wedding you had to believe the couple was destined to "live happily ever after."

Every detailed was handled with precision and grace.  The bride said that all the arrangements, and she stressed "all," had been handled by the hotel.  She was able to relax and enjoy the whole experience.  It sounded like quite a contrast to the Bridezillas shown on television.

I loved my stay.  The rooms are beautifully appointed with fresh bright colors.  It was quite a contrast to what you might expect in a historic hotel.  It is evident that attention to detail is the Hallmark at this Loew's resort.  The bed had a pillow top mattress and the linens felt wonderful against my skin.  Besides the usual amenities there was a flat screen TV, CD player, high speed internet access and 24 hour room service.

I heard compliments from guests who were traveling with their pets.  They said their dogs were treated like a prized member of the family.

The Lowe's Don CeSar values young children and the often overlooked teens.  Special programs and welcome surprises are waiting for them upon arrival. Teenagers are given "VIT" status (Very Important Teen) and are given backpacks and access to items that will make their visit to the "Don" enjoyable.  The look of the resort is elegant but the atmosphere is far from stuffy.  It is charming, comfortable and fun.

There are 2 beach front pools, a spa and fitness center.  You can even arrange for a massage in your room.  The food at the Sea Porch Café was wonderful.  You sit in comfortable white wicker furniture that reminds you that you are in a beach paradise.   The atmosphere is romantic.

It is being held behind MOSI, Tampa's Museum Of Science and Industry.  I went to the Renaissance Festival last weekend and it was fantastic.  As you go through the gate and enter the woods you are instantly transported back in time.  Dunedin will hold a street festival starting at 11AM on Saturday morning.  Their will be traditional Irish music, food, and step dancers.

Tampa Bay Downs is celebrating its biggest racing day of the year on Saturday.  Post time is 12:15 with over $850,000.00 in purses awarded.  It is a great precursor to the Kentucky Derby coming up in May.

Just down the street from where I live on St. Pete Beach, historic Corey Avenue will have its annual Spring Sidewalk Festival.  Lots of little boutique shops line the St. Pete Beach Business District, each will be featuring sales.

Many of the restaurants around St. Pete and Clearwater will be featuring corned beef and cabbage on their menu this weekend. 

If I still haven't mentioned something to interest you, perhaps you want to go back in time at Heritage Village located Largo.  This Saturday from 10AM until 4PM they will be saluting World War II and the Swinging 40s.  There will be costumed soldiers, A Tuskegee Airmen presentation, big band music and swing dance demos.  The event is free.  For details enter:  www.pinellascounty.org/heritage

Want still another festival?  The St. Petersburg waterfront area downtown will be the site of the SPIFFS Folk Fair in Vinoy Park on Saturday and Sunday.  Crafts, food, music even a parade of nations will be part of this festival featuring various ethnic and cultural groups.   Gates open at 10AM on Saturday.  The parade is scheduled for 1PM.  On Sunday gates open at noon and the festivities continue until 6PM.  Tickets are $10 at the gate; children under 12 are free with an adult.  It is a fun way to experience the variety of cultures our world offers.

Whether you attend a festival, go to the races, eat corned beef and cabbage, drink green beer, travel back in time, or around the world the St. Pete area has its welcome sign out.

The crosstown Bay to Bay footrace is being held on Sunday.   There are 3 races.  The Bay to Bay is a 12K (7.5 miles) and runs from Boca Ciega Bay to Tampa Bay.  There is also a 5K (3.1 miles), and a 1 mile run as well as children's footraces.  A two day fitness Expo is held in concert with the race on Friday and Saturday.  Potential bone marrow donors are encouraged to register; the procedure is painless.  It is a simple cotton swab passed through the registrant's mouth.  It only takes a moment and might mean the difference between life and death to someone someday.  A special effort is being made to find donors for African-American and Hispanic groups with leukemia.  Donors for these groups are particularly hard to find.    To register for the race or volunteer to help enter: http://www.runbaytobay.com/ or call (727) 367-7223.    

Also in the news, is this Saturday's "Save Our Shore Coastal Clean-up."  Volunteers should show up at 8AM at any of our six city waterfront parks.  The cleanup will run until noon and is expected to draw about 300 volunteers.  Bill Sanders, Executive Director of "Keep Pinellas Beautiful" said, "We try to appeal to their pride, because after all, it is their beaches and parks."  Organizers will provide gloves and trash bags.  Participants will receive a "Great American Cleanup T-shirt and more importantly the satisfaction that they have helped to keep our beaches sugary white.  I'll be there.  I hope that maybe I will see you there.

March is a terrific time to "go fly a kite."  Here in Florida that can mean taking your kite to one of our many parks or running along the beach to set it free into our baby blue sky.  

You can also become the kite.  Yes, you can become the kite.  Go to one of our causeways, Ft. De Soto, or one of our many beaches, on a windy day and you will see people Kite surfing.  It is amazing!  Instead of the traditional windsurfing these surfers harness themselves to huge curved kites that take them "flying" across the water.  If they lift their legs they can even become airborned, twisting and turning in the sky.

Come to St. Pete and have an adventure.

Residents have known about these special places for years and now tourists and snow birds have discovered these hideaways that specialize in breakfast and lunch.

Munch's Sundries and Restaurant is located at 3920 6^th Street South in St. Pete.  Munch's has a tradition of serving old fashioned delicious comfort food.  The décor is eclectic and includes quirky sayings on the wall as well as pictures of St. Petersburg in days gone by.  You can sit in a booth, at a table, or dine at the counter.  In addition to the tried and true breakfast and lunch specials, they offer a couple of items unique to them including the Philly Cheese Steak Omelet and the Gulfport S.O.S made up of cheddar cheese, grits, shaved ham over toast with 2 eggs.  If you see your name written on the day board at the entrance, you eat free. 

My personal favorite place to eat breakfast is at the SeaSide Grille on Pass-A-Grille.  This concession stand if more like a café.  Just a few feet from the Gulf of Mexico it serves a wide variety of breakfast items including the SeaSide Slam.  It includes 2 eggs prepared as you like, 2 pieces of bacon or sausage, home fries, and 2 pancakes or toast.

It is fantastic to sit at a picnic table and dine on a scrumptious breakfast as the Gulf splashes against the shore.  The long lines (they move quickly) are evidence of the SeaSide Grille's popularity.  They also serve lunch and a variety of ice cream bars, chips and snacks.

This weekend I ate breakfast at Lenny's located at 21220 U.S. 19 N, in Clearwater just a short distance from Bright House Networks Field where the Phillies hold Spring Training.  It was packed with Phillie fans.  Balloon Man Mark was making creations for all the children.  The place and the décor was fun.  Lenny's is known for their "bowl of Danish."  It consists of an assortment of 5 tiny, very tasty pastries and is included when you order an omelet or most other breakfast special otherwise it is a nominal $2.25.  The menu is extensive and the food delicious.  The customer service and attitude at Lenny's are a perfect start to any day.  They say attitudes are contagious, certainly the ones at Lenny's are worth catching.
