Shopping

shopping.jpg
A new neighbor was asking me about shopping today.  She has moved to a shopper's paradise.

There are "malls" peppered through-out Pinellas County and Tampa.  Tyrone and Countryside are two popular malls with Pennys, Dillards, Macys and Sears as anchor stores.  Gulf Boulevard, that runs up and down adjacent to the beaches, is dotted with specialty and souvenir shops.

Across the bridge in Tampa, just a short ...

Abstract Art Show

If you are looking for art from local Florida artists, then you should be very interested in what The Great Frame Up of St. Petersburg has for you.   While opening two stores simultaneously, the owners have managed to compile a group of artists, some established and some starting off, that have used a variety of mediums, from glass to resin. Their first show of the year opened on the 1st of March, will remain ...

Visitors have found the fun and Sun here in St. Pete

The smorgasbord of different license plates on the vehicles here in St. Pete is proof that people across the country have discovered this fantastic stretch of paradise. The various accents being used by the people at our restaurants, attractions and beach show that the word has spread globally that St. Petersburg is the place to visit.   Many Europeans combine a week stay in Orlando ( just a 90 minute drive away) ...

Wild Hogs

wildhog1.jpgI saw the movie, "Wild Hogs." Steve Persall, film critic for our local newspaper, the St. Petersburg Times, graded it a D.  The boisterous laughter that overflowed the theatre gave it an A or at least a B.

Taking off on a Harley adventure can be the perfect antidote to the busy, fast paced life so many of us live.  It is possible to ...

Prime time coverage.

The Tate family from Davis Island in Tampa was featured on tonight's episode of Extreme Makeover:Home Edition on ABC.  Their home had been destroyed when a small plane crashed into it and exploded.  It was fantastic to see this episode tonight. The  community rallied around this charismatic family and it was wonderful to see such deserving people return to their new "home sweet home."

Weekend Fun

This weekend there is a smorgasbord of activities to choose from here in the St. Pete area. The first Friday of every month downtown comes alive with a giant street party on Cental Avenue from 2nd to 3rd Street.  It starts at 5:30 and lasts until 10 PM when many continue the fun at BayWalk's bars and restaurants.  Nearby, Gulfport holds it's monthly First Friday Art Walk where local artists ...

Downtown St. Petersburg

Instead of taking my daily walk on the beach today, I decided to walk around downtown St. Pete.  As a writer, I am also a lover of books consequently Haslam's Book Store on Central Avenue is one of my favorite places to explore.  Filled with new and used books, it is a book browsers paradise.  I made a stop there today as I explored downtown.

I walked from there down to ...
