Fort De Soto Park
Tuesday, I spent the afternoon enjoying Fort De Soto Park. It was named America's #1 Beach in 2005. The sand looks white like flour or sugar and extends for miles. There is an actual fort here. The original structure, features canons and a museum that can be explored for free. Fort De Soto is listed with the National Registry of Historic Places.
There are miles of asphalt trails for biking, skating and walking. If you don't have a bike, rentals are available. There are also fishing piers, boat launches, picnic shelters, concession stands, a beautiful campground (reservations required) and kayak and canoe rentals. There is even a dog park and beach so man's best friend can play.
I took my computer and did my writing at a picnic table under the trees beachside. It is wonderful when you can combine business with pleasure and St. Petersburg offers many such opportunities.
