Spanish Tapas and Cavas in Denver at the 9th Door

So, I love Spain - that is why I am so excited about the 9th Door in LoDo, Denver's first and only tapas bar.   I went last Tuesday night to enjoy a live flamenco guitar group, sip great wine, and sample some of the tapas.  If you aren't yet familiar with tapas - you will love them.  In Spain, tapas are served as appetizers that usually accompany sherry or other aperitifs and ...

Colorado State Capitol in Denver

Many people compare our State Capitol Building in Denver with the National Capitol in Washington, D.C., and that's a comparison we are proud of.   The Capitol building, home of the Colorado legislature, was designed by Elijah e. Myers, and was constructed in the 1890's, from Colorado white granite.  It is located in downtown Denver, on a hill slightly higher than the rest of the downtown area, ...

The Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo has been entertaining visitors since 1896, when  a small, orphaned black bear named Billy Bryan became the first resident of Denver Zoo. A gift to the mayor of Denver, Billy's adventurous and sometimes mischievous spirit helped mold the Zoo into what it is today

April is a great time to visit the zoo --- animals are waking up and babies are being born.  This ...

Old Fashioned Hootenanny at Denver Folk Center

Denver has been home to Hootenannies for years, beginning with original Folklore Center, where music lovers would hang out, play music, swap songs, socialize,  tell tales and while away the evenings in a haze of good music and good company.   Now, the Denver Folk Center invites you to their hootenannies, a combination open stage, mass sing-a-long and groovin' good time, in the cozy Tuft Theater, the hootenanny is set up like ...

The Denver Mint --- Take a Tour!

The U.S. Mint in Denver is one of six operated in the United States.  Others are in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, West Point, NY; Fort Knox, KY;  and San Francisco, CA.

The Denver Mint, in downtown Denver was closed after 911.  I stopped by the Mint with my god son in from Minnesota, and we were turned away by armed guards.  I was disappointed because Maxie didn't ...

Academy Award winning actor and Grammy Award nominated singer and songwriter Jamie Foxx will be performing live at the Wells Fargo Theater on Wednesday April 4th.

This is a rescheduled date as the promoter for Foxx, Another Planet Entertainment, made the decision to play it safe back in January: "The trucks and buses are having a hard time making their way to ...

Lift Ticket Crackdown

Skiers and snowboarders alike: take caution!

Due to the fact that Spring Break is around the corner/upon us, Breckenridge Ski Resort, among others, is cracking down on stolen and borrowed lift passes.

Essentially, don't "loan" your tickets to your friends, and don't "lift" them (like the pun?) if you find one laying around.

Fun fact: according to the resort, 40% of all pulled passes happen in March.

You've been warned.

If you still choose to ...

Where to go for St. Patrick's in Denver

3 suggestions: The Celtic, Irish Snug, LoDo's

The Celtic: great atmosphere, but downtown parking is as much fun as cafeteria leftovers. It has a very "pub" feel to it. I have expect to step outside and see a castle on a picturesque mountainside. There's also a divine cherry and whipped cream dessert there. Is that traditional Irish faire? Who cares, it's really really good. PS to my fellow singles: on Tuesdays ...
