Menu Foods Pet Food Recall

In light of recent events concerning food poisoning with various Menu Foods pet food products, may I suggest some healthier organic options for Fifi and Fido:

My cat really likes Newman's Own Organics, and it's the cheapest of the bunch while still being pricey. The cost of one 25-pound bag of its 70% organic dog food is almost $40. Natura Pet Products makes a 95% organic brand dubbed Karma that "fetches" (you like ...

Lift Ticket Crackdown

Skiers and snowboarders alike: take caution!

Due to the fact that Spring Break is around the corner/upon us, Breckenridge Ski Resort, among others, is cracking down on stolen and borrowed lift passes.

Essentially, don't "loan" your tickets to your friends, and don't "lift" them (like the pun?) if you find one laying around.

Fun fact: according to the resort, 40% of all pulled passes happen in March.

You've been warned.

Denver. Snow. AGAIN!?

Here we go again, maybe. Local newscasters and meteorologists are breathless in anticipation of yet another winter storm, expected to hit eastern Colorado and the I-25 corridor this evening.  To hear them on last night's news, you would think an impending Ice Age is bearing down on us and we should prepare for an apocalyptic wave of the white stuff.  Some reports are actually using the "B-word."  That's right, ...

Colorado Eats: A Denver Restaurant Guide

Be sure to pick up today's Denver Post to get your copy of Colorado Eats 2007, or check out the online version here.  It's an expansive look at restaurants in and around the Denver area, as well the suburbs, the front range, and the high country.  Those familiar with Denver's culinary scene might notice some omissions of great dining venues, but the value of this guide ...

Ten Best Things About Snow In Denver

Dog in snowSince this is the 4,758th straight day that Denver has had snow cover (actually, it's 60+ days, closing in on the all-time record), and since much of the rest of the country is in the midst of a winter storm, it seems appropriate to give a little run down of random reasons why you shouldn't be completely annoyed and disgusted by the continuing ...

Eclipse Snow Park: The Rebirth of a Ski Area, Ready-made for Denver Daytrippers

As Julie Dunn reported last week in the Denver Post, a new ski area in close proximity to the Denver metro area is expected to open by next winter.  Michael Coors, yes, that Coors, is planning to open the nearly 300-acre Eclipse Snow Park on the site of what used to be St. Mary's ski area.  The park sounds like it will be geared towards the younger set, the grommers and shredders and ...

Denver and the Democratic National Convention

Flag wavingBesides the snow and the cold and the snowy cold, the big story here in recent days has been the selection of Denver as the site of the 2008 Democratic National Convention.  Depending on who you talk to, this either means the end of life as we know it in the Mile High City, or it's the greatest thing to ever happen in the ...

Help! I’m Stuck in the Airport!

Well, by now I hope you’ve heard that Colorado is officially a national disaster area, complete with activated National Guard and six foot snow drifts. This isn’t unheard of for this region. The gulf coast gets tropical storms, the west coast gets earthquakes, and we get blizzards. So if you ever plan to travel to or through Denver between November and late March, let me give you ...
