The Denver Mint --- Take a Tour!
The U.S. Mint in Denver is one of six operated in the United States. Others are in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, PA, West Point, NY; Fort Knox, KY; and San Francisco, CA.
The Denver Mint, in downtown Denver was closed after 911. I stopped by the Mint with my god son in from Minnesota, and we were turned away by armed guards. I was disappointed because Maxie didn't get to go on the tour, because it's a great tour and a wonderful place to take kids. But I was proud that it was being protected, too. Well, lucky for visitor to Denver, and us folks who live here, the U.S. Mint in Denver is open for tours again!
The tours are free, but you must have a reservation for all tours, which you can make at the Mint's Visitor Center or at their website. Guided tours start on the hour form 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 Monday through Friday. They have a nice gift shop, too. You'll never handle your spare change the same again!
