The 16th Street Mall
It’s a luxury for a city to have a focal point such as Denver’s 16th Street Mall. The popular strip built in 1982 is home to hotels, office buildings (including Denver’s World Trade Center), residential units, restaurants, cafes, bars and more.
On any given day you can buy anything from a loaded potato to a “How’s Your Aspen” T-Shirt from one of the many vendors. Wary travelers can also take advantage of the free Mall Ride shuttle that provides transportation for more than 60,000 passengers weekly.
According to the Downtown Denver Partnership, “The 16th Street Mall is the primary shopping and entertainment strip of Downtown Denver.” The Mall stretches from a rapidly developing Union Station neighborhood to Civic Center Station near the State Capital. It connects districts such as Larimer Square, Writer’s Square, Tabor Center and The Denver Pavilions at Glenarm Place.
Boasting familiar names for hungry travelers such as ESPNZone (Lawrence), The Cheesecake Factory (Larimer) and Hard Rock Café (Glenarm), 16th Street also has a blend of local favorites such as Paramount Café (Glenarm) and Appaloosa Grill (Welton). There are a wide variety of restaurants both on and just off of 16th Street to appeal to the masses. Watch a movie, go shopping, try your hand at bowling or have a relaxing dinner – it’s your’s for the choosing on 16th Street.
Suggestion: If you’re on a weekend getaway, or simply looking for romance points, take advantage of one of the horse and carriage rides on a beautiful Colorado night. Most carriages stage between Larimer and Court Streets.
