The Elusive Quest for the Perfect Happy Hour
Hey all! Here I am in the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado, and I have the need to explore. Nay, the desire to be a tourist in my hometown.
So, with that said, let's throw our keys into the fishbowl at the virtual front door and wander off into the wild blue yonder.
First task ... finding the elusive perfect happy hour. The best drinks, the best vibe for an eclectic mix of co-workers, the most reasonable hours (who has time to grab a drink at 2 in the afternoon?), and the most creative.
Senor Ritas on Colfax and Elm offers up $3 house margs (tall ... none of the low-ball tumbler stuff at other restaurants) and $3 wine as well as $2 tecate beer for the tough-guys in your crowd. $10 worth later, you might be able to convince them to compete in smashing the cans on their foreheads! In which case, Senor Ritas offers great entertainment and an opportunity for interning med students who are rusty at suturing.
Hours? This place caters to the nightsiders of the town. 10-midnight is when the magic happens. Pop a few stray coins in the mp3 jukebox and choose between 50 Cent and the Go Go's. There's a tune for everyone in your group ... promise.
The acoustics lend nicely to having conversations and hearing the sweet sounds of stress-relieving laughter. Ear drums need not fear sensory overload in this little taste of Mexico.
There's my two bits ... with more to come (would that equal 4 bits?).
Suggestions on where to hit up next? Where to avoid? Although the places to avoid sometimes make the best stories, involving debauchery and someone falling into a pool (or am I thinking of a John Cusack movie now?)
Cheers ~Maddy
