Ten Best Things About Snow In Denver
Since this is the 4,758th straight day that Denver has had snow cover (actually, it's 60+ days, closing in on the all-time record), and since much of the rest of the country is in the midst of a winter storm, it seems appropriate to give a little run down of random reasons why you shouldn't be completely annoyed and disgusted by the continuing layer of the white stuff.
1. Snow Days--doesn't matter if you're 14 or 40, it's always fun to skip a day of school because of the snow.
2. Valentine's Day--what's better than getting comfortable on the couch with that someone special, for a romantic evening snuggling?
3. Dogs and Snow--we all know that Denver is a great canine city, and that's true tenfold when there's snow on the ground. Just try not to be entertained while you watch your pup play around in the powder.
4. Shoveling--yes, yes, most people hate it, and Denver is one of fittest cities in the country, so we may not need the exercise, bu there's something satisfying about clearing the sidewalk or shoveling out your car. The crisp cold air in your lungs, the tinge of muscle burn in your back, and the chill in your fingers and toes. Call me crazy, but I love it.
5. Hot Chocolate--even though some people might think it not an acceptable drink past the age of 11, a nice steamy cup of hot chocolate on a frigid day is the kind of warmth that people write books about.
6. Nighttime Snow--few things are as tranquil as an evening walk on an empty sidewalk when all you here is your own breath and the crunch of snow beneath each step.
7. Sledding--whatever piece of real estate, vacant lot, or typically ignored hill side that rests idle without can be turned into a screaming and slippery and speeding bevy of wintry fun when the snow hits.
8. Morning Coffee--an early morning cup of coffee tastes exponentially better when there is snow on the ground. It's a scientific fact.
9. Making a Fire--the smell of matches, the crackle of the wood, the wave of warmth the spills across the living room...how about a fire anyone?
10. This being Colorado--any list about snow and Denver wouldn't be complete without mention of skiing or snowboarding in the mountains. Every powder day is like being a kid on Christmas morning, all over again. Be sure to get an early start. And a late finish.
