Best Breakfast Diner in Denver

Pete's KitchenThis might be in the realm of the painfully obvious, but if you're looking for the best breakfast diner in Denver, stop what you're doing and head straight for Pete's Kitchen.  Located just a few minutes east of downtown, at 1962 East Colfax Avenue, Pete's is without a doubt a staple on the Denver culinary scene.  Open 24 hours a day, it's a no frills, straight-forward, greasy-spoon diner that caters to locals, passers-by, and late night revelers all the same.  The "best of" ratings that Pete's has compiled from nearly every area publication of merit is impressive to say the least.

I was reminded of this earlier today when I met a friend there for breakfast.  The classic dining counter, the strong coffee, the fast and efficient service, the tasty eggs--it's everything you would expect.  Plus, there are some gems to be had, like the Breakfast Burrito Supreme.  It's an institution on the dry-erase specials board, with two eggs, hash browns, ham, bacon, sausage and gyros, slathered with cheese, tomatoes, onions, and arguably the best red or green chili this side of the New Mexico state border.  You'll almost definitely need to schedule a nap after you down one of these, or muster the energy to take a stroll through nearby Cheesman Park (three blocks south of Colfax) to walk off the calories.

I confess that I've only ever eaten breakfast here, even when it was for lunch or dinner.  But their hearty, inexpensive food is not to be denied, regardless of scheduled meal or time of day.  So, listen to your stomach and get there.Š
