It's hard to believe, but we're just four short months away from the most wonderful time of the year. But if you want that "wonderful" atmosphere almost year round (OK, late-May through Christmas), take the kiddos out to the North Pole (aka Santa's Workshop), 20 minutes west of the Springs in Cascade off US 24.

No matter the season, 'tis the season in this enchanted park, where you can pet the llamas, sit in Santa's lap, get ahead (or start) in Christmas shopping and, of course, ride to your heart's content. That's right - when you buy your ticket (just $16.95 per head, 2 and under free plus senior and military discounts), there's no additional purchases, no armbands, just deciding what to do next.

Also, if you can, wait until 3 to go (park's open from 10-5 through Dec. 23 but closed Wednesday and Thursday)- they call this the "Twilight Pass." With this, pay regular price, then get free passes to redeem the next day or any other day during the season. For once, running late had its advantages!

Since Santa's situated at the foot of Pike's Peak at 7,500 above sea level, I recommend that a jacket not be too far away, and with quite hilly terrain, wear comfy sneakers.

The kids had a blast - somehow, they can take the spinning - and way more affordable than heading to Denver to Elitch Gardens.

Ho, ho, ho!

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
Katherine Lee Bates wrote these famous words atop Pikes Peak, over looking the beautiful city I call my home; Colorado Springs. I awake every morning to a view of the Rocky Mountains that takes my breath away. Whether covered in a blanked of powdery white snow, or framed by a crimson sunset; the view of the Peak reminds me why I love my home, and the majestic mountain tops that reach up to the clear blue skies assures me that there is a God. Every year thousands of people from around the globe flock to my " backyard" to grasp a peice of heaven. From the breathtaking scenery and the friendly locals, to the intriguing wildlife and unique boutiques, Colorado Springs has something for everyone. Nestled up against the Rocky Mountains and overlooking the golden plains there are plenty of activities for families, singles, dogs, young, old, and in between. You can hike the many scenic trails and mountain tops; bike, horseback ride, walk your dog, read, or picnic in parks, valleys, canyons, and near streams or ponds; find unique gifts in one of many little shops and boutiques; crawl through caves and watch for bats emerge for a late night snack; or simply take in the crisp mountain air as you relax under the vast blue skies. Whatever you call Heaven, I'm sure you can find here.
