Liza with a 'Z'

index-thumb.gif

That's right, the real Liza, not a dragshow impersonation, which what we've been used to for the past several years. This coming Saturday, the legendary South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe in Stateline re-captures some of the glitz and the glitter that made it famous back in the day.

She began performing at the age of three and has been busy in the industry ...

Snow tease

No, I wasn't fibbing when I posted about the snow flurries hitting the basin earlier this month. But in typical Tahoe fashion, it was just a taste of what is yet to come later this winter, not a statement of what the fall weather will be like right now.

So put the skis, boards and snowshoes back in the hall closet, and lace up your hiking boots- there's still ...

Kirk wood, if he could.

Kirkwood. Kirk wood, if he could. It's a play on words, you know. Granted, not a very good one. On par with that Kim Basinger and Brad Pitt movie from 1992, where she is a cartoon character, Holli Would, who breaks through to our real, non-animated world. Tag line on the movie posters, "Holli Would, if she could."

Anyway, on to the ski report, and another ...

GON-do-la or gon-DO-la?

Yesterday, I promised that I'd let you in on some of the cool stuff at Heavenly that was there before the upgrades and additions for the 2007-08 season.

Well, one of the coolest of the cool is the gondola that takes off right from the Heavenly Village, just off the main strip at the state line between Nevada and California.

In December of 2000, the gondola took its maiden voyage as the ...

Heavenly gears up for the season

The summer may have just only given way to fall, but at this elevation, that means that winter is on its way. Snow dusted the mountaintops on Thursday night, and the South Tahoe morning started off crisp and clear enough. But the calm weather quickly gave way to a storm of sideways blowing snow, accompanied by thunder and lightning, if you can believe it.

As the South Shore's premiere ...

The running of the fishes

kokanee-at-taylor.gif

The 18th annual Kokanee Salmon Festival takes place at South Shore on October 6 and 7. A brilliantly-colored spectacle, if a little morbid, the Kokanee salmon return to the streams where they were hatched, find a mate, spawn, and- here's the morbid part- die. During this season, the adult males develop a humpback and a big hooked jaw- all the better for battling ...
