Get a room!

Friends who hit the tahoe.com ski day at Kirkwood report that the powder was in the vicinity of a yard deep, and Heavenly is reporting something like 160 percent of normal snowpack...

No two ways about it, it's a powderhound paradise in the Sierra this season.

But the same snow that makes for great winter rec opportunities also makes for some hazardous driving conditions.  This past weekend saw an avalanche that closed ...

Kirk wood, if he could.

Kirkwood. Kirk wood, if he could. It's a play on words, you know. Granted, not a very good one. On par with that Kim Basinger and Brad Pitt movie from 1992, where she is a cartoon character, Holli Would, who breaks through to our real, non-animated world. Tag line on the movie posters, "Holli Would, if she could."

Anyway, on to the ski report, and another ...

GON-do-la or gon-DO-la?

Yesterday, I promised that I'd let you in on some of the cool stuff at Heavenly that was there before the upgrades and additions for the 2007-08 season.

The summer may have just only given way to fall, but at this elevation, that means that winter is on its way. Snow dusted the mountaintops on Thursday night, and the South Tahoe morning started off crisp and clear enough. But the calm weather quickly gave way to a storm of sideways blowing snow, accompanied by thunder and lightning, if you can believe it.

As the South Shore's premiere ...

Fourth of July celebration is still a go!

Despite the recent Angora Fire that has burned parts of the Tahoe Basin near South Lake Tahoe, the South Shore's annual Independence Day celebratory fireworks show and music simulcast is still planned to take place as scheduled.

The Fourth of July show will take place on Wednesday, beginning at about 9:30 p.m. and lasting for about a half an hour.  The fireworks are launched from a barge out on the water, so the ...
