Athletes to flock to Tahoe for Big Blue Adventure Race

On Sept 22 the Tahoe Big Blue Adventure Race finale will commence when hundreds of athletes will grab their maps and paddles for eight-plus miles of kayaking, more than 24 miles of mountain biking with a 5,000 foot elevation gain and 5-8 miles of running & hiking on  beautiful Lake Tahoe. All the competitors will be using maps and compasses to follow the race course. There will be a long-distance race and also a shorter sprint race as well.

Lake Tahoe is known to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. What makes this particular race, named the "Adventure Race" so challenging is the fact that more often than not, on race day, the waters can be very choppy. It has been said that you really have to be prepared for anything.

The first Tahoe Big Blue Adventure Race started in the year 2002. The race is open to teams of two, three or four all-male, all-female, coed or masters, as well as individuals. The sprint competition is open to teams of two.

The start and finish lines are located at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. The six-to 12-hours race starts at 7:30 a.m. with the sprint beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Prizes and awards will include products from Merrell, Salomon, Clif, National Geographic Adventure, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Tecnu and Tahoe Mountain Sports.

Teams can register through Sept. 21, with late fees applying after Sept. 17.
