Festival of Fine Arts

July certainly seems to be the month to celebrate the arts in this part of the country, and South Lake Tahoe is no exception.  On July 7 and 8, the 6th annual Lake Tahoe Festival of Fine Arts takes place at South Tahoe Middle School.

This festival is an outdoor, juried fine arts show, featuring work in a wide variety of arts, both two- and three-dimensional.  There will also be food vendors on hand, a Picasso Art Park for young kids, live entertainment and raffle and auction prizes.

The event is a fundraiser for TAP, the Tahoe Arts Project.  TAP is local nonprofit organization that works to bring all sorts of arts to the children of Lake Tahoe's South Shore.  The mission statement says that the group strives to "provide cultural enrichment and diversity for the community through the arts and education with particular focus on our youth."

Just one example of the great work that TAP accomplishes in the community is bringing the Missoula Children's Theater workshops to town.  MCT productions are a great way for young kids to get a taste of showbiz, and through the efforts of TAP, students on the South Shore can participate at no charge (unlike in some communities off the hill, where students essentially have to buy their way into a role in a MCT production̷ ;)

So come on out and enjoy the arts at STMS this weekend, and say 'hi' to Peggy, TAP's executive director.  And tell her I sent you!
