Fourth of July celebration is still a go!

Despite the recent Angora Fire that has burned parts of the Tahoe Basin near South Lake Tahoe, the South Shore's annual Independence Day celebratory fireworks show and music simulcast is still planned to take place as scheduled.

The Fourth of July show will take place on Wednesday, beginning at about 9:30 p.m. and lasting for about a half an hour.  The fireworks are launched from a barge out on the water, so the best viewing sites include anyplace where you can get a good, unobstructed view of the south end of the lake.

For those who are not familiar with the show, be sure to have a radio handy-  the two local South Shore radio stations, KRLT (the Lake) 93.9 fm and KOWL 1490 am simulcast a soundtrack of patriotic music, to which the fireworks show is choreographed.  Be sure to listen for some tracks by the angry American himself, Toby Keith (who, by the way, returns to Harveys outdoor amphitheater later this summer!)

Aramark tells me that Tahoe's two big paddlewheelers have also kept their Fourth of cruises on the schedule.  The Tahoe Queen and the M.S. Dixie II will both be offering special cruises for the evening, you can check out their schedules at www.laketahoecruises.com.

Happy Independence Day, and don't forget just what it is that we're celebrating.

ps- And don't forget to thank a firefighter!
