The Best Ramen in Mountain View

...has to be Ryowa, just off of Castro Street, about a block shy of the railroad tracks that punctuate the end of the downtown street. The waitlist of often a half a dozen parties even as early as 11:30AM was indicative of how in demand the Japanese noodle house was to locals and lunch-going professionals alike.

Still, it is a little sparse on space, but it can't be helped. Assuming you ...

King of Krung Siam - Mountain View

If you decide to go here, do not order the pad see ewe.

That's pretty much the only bad thing I have to say about this restaurant. While the noodles were soggy and the dish tasted more of oil than the savory spiced chicken and vegetables, which were basically untenable even relative to the noodles, my co-workers took pity and offered me their dishes, which were done rather well.

They tried to ...

Fremont Older Open Reserve

So I've been hanging around places that generally require a little green to sprinkle around here and there to actually get anything accomplished. Here's something to do that completely doesn't, unless you're a hardcore penny pincher and you want to consider gas. You won't have to spend much at all though, or any, because you could even walk there. And seeing as how it's in San Jose's backyard, it ...

Pluto's

Recently being downgraded to the role of a demi-planet (or whatever astronomers want to call it now) hasn’t done much for the erstwhile planetoid’s counterpart here on distant Earth. Pluto’s has a chic, semi-futuristic atmosphere combined with an unusual method of dining. You pick up a card from the kiosk by the entrance and make requests based off of that menu. As you order, holes are punched, which are ...

Magianno's Little Italy

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your rat-race driven life, I was thinking when the company I applied for accepted me as a full time employee.

Well, I'm not one for the destitution of being a cubicle monkey, so it was more of an ironic thought for me. However, I was very much enthralled by the idea of having work, finally, and was willing to celebrate.

So to follow ...

Cluck U!

So here's a little gem on a sidebar note that I've been meaning to visit since I returned to San Jose. They call it "Cluck U", though since the management change it's taken the less cheeky moniker of "University Chicken". Just off the Alameda and across the street from Santa Clara University, this hot wings sports bar is a place to go for when you're looking for some spicy munchies.

The ...

Pasta Pomodoro

Call me a slave to capitalism if you will, but there are certain establishments of popular society that I tend to induldge myself in, namely coffee shops like Starbucks and booksellers like Borders, and like the little cafe known as Pasta Pomodoro that serves a delightful meal.
Today is a rainy day in San Jose, but it was not without its merits. I had a lunch in the local Pasta Pomodoro, ...

Santana Row: Luxury shopping, dining, and living in the heart of Silicon Valley.

There's just something about this place that screams "come here" whenever you pass by. When you enter and park your car, and then step outside for the first time it won't take you long to realize why you gravitated to this place.

Santana Row is an upscale shopping center fashioned to make it look like a local downtown. After its infamous fire that delayed construction for another year, it was completed ...

Welcome to San Jose!

Okay, well... Maybe you're not here yet, but you'd like to be. Let me tell you something about San Jose.

I've lived here all my life, in and around the Silicon Valley, and I love San Jose. I hate big cities, but I love our downtown. I hate the suburbs, but I love OUR suburbs. I want something a bit rural, a bit quiet, a place where you can know your ...
