The best little beer store in San Francisco.

The City Beer Store & Tasting Bar isn't just for beer geeks. However, if you think beer is, like, totally gross, you might have a harder time having a good time here. But you should still try it.

Craig, your insanely knowledgeable and a really cool host will turn your beer world upside down and inside out. His shelves are lined with the finest hopped, fermented and bubbled goodies in the ...

Get your drink on, and exercise—at the same time!

It’s a lovely sunny Sunday in San Francisco. But the effects of Saturday night’s boozy indiscretions are making your head pound and you just want to dive headfirst into a bloody mary. But who wants to sit inside a dark bar on such a gorgeous day?

The solution to this dichotomous quandary is simple: get on a bike and head to the Mission, where you’ll find a high concentration of ...

The best movie-going experience. Ever.

I'd heard about the Parkway forever. Some mystical, magical place that played first-run movies, served pizza and most magical of all, offered beer to its movie-going patrons.

Needless to say I was skeptical. The fact that this wonderland was located in Oakland didn't help to convince me. Oakland is, like, totally FAR.

But at last, in the tow of the two people who had proselytized to me most enthusiastically about the ...

Mangrosa in Northbeach of San Francisco

What makes a 4 1/2 star restaurant any different than a 5 star restaurant? Mangrosa, an Italian/Brazilian restaurant in the Northbeach neighborhood of San Francisco was voted a 4 ½ star rating on Cityseach and is described in the SF Zagat Guide as “where the beautiful people go”. Zagat is on the money — Citysearch could have done a little better.

Where to find some kick a## yoga. Literally.

I am all for inner peace and the alignment of chakras and an overall zen sensibility. Microbiotic veganism is okay too, if that’s your thing. But it’s nice to know that you don’t have to embrace your inner power animal in order to practice yoga—and sometimes you need a little ab work to go with your enlightenment.

Enter Yoga Flow, the Castro studio of the Yoga Tree empire. Here you ...

The best of the raw bar and beyond...

WARNING: If you are one of those freakish folks who think fish is utterly gross, or if you are slightly less freakish and simply insist on having your fish cooked, this isn't necessarily the joint for you.

Bar Crudo is the most lovely semi-recent addition to the SF restaurant rat race. It provides beautifully prepared, top-grade raw seafood at a wonderfully leisurely pace. It has a raw bar to beat ...

On Beautiful Days When You Can't Watch a Ball Game.

Nothing makes me feel alive and free like stealing the good seats right above the dugout at a baseball game. Even sitting up in the nose bleed sections are still an exciting delight miles and miles away from all responsibility. Nothing like it in the world, but as summer eases in, there’s one more sport I have to get my fix of.

A Whole Lotta Burrito at Poncho Villa

Pancho Villa Street ViewAlthough other places in the states have burrito places, I've never found burritos quite like the ones in San Francisco anywhere else. That freshly grilled beef, pork or chicken or veggies with rice, your choice of beans, and many other optional toppings. All rolled up into a tortilla to create a chunk the size of ...

Carnaval in San Francisco - May 26th and 27th

Yesterday, I had my digital cable/Internet service upgraded to include phone service. The Comcast guys who installed the service were so nice.

One of them, Victor, told me about Carnaval in the Mission, which is coming up on May 26th and 27th. This year's Carnaval is called "Love Happens! 2007". It is the 29th year for Carnaval in the Mission and they have it all, from ...

Cozy and classy at the Alembic.

Alembic is Magnolia Brewpub's classier and more attractive younger cousin. You like them both just fine, but when the other family members get together to talk in the corners at the reunion, they agree that as likable as Magnolia is, Alembic really just has more going for it.

The bar is made from the benches of the old Kezar stadium. The wooden floors and wainscoting come from a deconstructed barn ...
