I am all for inner peace and the alignment of chakras and an overall zen sensibility. Microbiotic veganism is okay too, if that’s your thing. But it’s nice to know that you don’t have to embrace your inner power animal in order to practice yoga—and sometimes you need a little ab work to go with your enlightenment.
Enter Yoga Flow, the Castro studio of the Yoga Tree empire. Here you ...

Tartine Bakery.
People line up at 8am Saturday mornings for fresh French-style pastries. Best bakery at the corner of Guerrero and 18th in the Mission.
The best buttermilk scones, pain au chocolate with Scharffen Berger Chocolate and Croque Monsieur (open-face sandwich). Not to mention all the breads, cakes and sandwiches.
It's hard to find parking in this neighborhood, but if you take BART to 16th Street or take J-Church line to ...

With its emblematic sign in the heart of San Francisco's gay district, the Castro Theatre is landmark with an impressive facade, but one really needs to venture inside to get the true Castro experience.
Built in 1922 and registered as a historical San Francisco landmark in 1977, the exterior design was modeled loosely on the ...

Grease your chains, pump your tires, and meet up with other city bikers today at the SF Public Library's Main Branch (Fulton street steps) at 11am for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's Sex Worker on Wheels Tour.

One of my favorite things to do when I lived in Northbeach, was open a bottle of wine, and walk from the marina through downtown trying to find ...

How to find designer w/o breaking the bank? Try a second-hand clothing store.
One chain in particular has found the right formula: Crossroads Trading Company. With stores all across California and in the Chicago and Seattle areas, this company appeals to shoppers by paying cash on the spot but then being very discriminating with their buys. You get the latest trends at 50-80% off retail.
The four locations ...

The first yoga class I ever went to was at Yoga 101 in Palo Alto. It was a Bikram Yoga class that had a starting rate of 10 classes for $10. Not knowing what Bikram was, I went to the class with sweatpants. Big mistake, the yoga studio was heated to 105°F and packed with Stanford’s heavy breathing football team. By the end of the 90 ...

Let me begin with the requisite disclaimer: in order to take full advantage of the route suggested below, DITCH YOUR CAR and partake in the comfort of the leisurely public transportation system of San Francisco. Or, if you’re slightly more flush and/or impatient, taxis are always nice too. But if you start at the Beach Chalet, it’s a short walk to the Fulton 5 or the N Judah, both of ...

Nothing makes me feel alive and free like stealing the good seats right above the dugout at a baseball game. Even sitting up in the nose bleed sections are still an exciting delight miles and miles away from all responsibility. Nothing like it in the world, but as summer eases in, there’s one more sport I have to get my fix of.

There was something sad ...

Although other places in the states have burrito places, I've never found burritos quite like the ones in San Francisco anywhere else. That freshly grilled beef, pork or chicken or veggies with rice, your choice of beans, and many other optional toppings. All rolled up into a tortilla to create a chunk the size of ...

Yesterday, I had my digital cable/Internet service upgraded to include phone service. The Comcast guys who installed the service were so nice.

One of them, Victor, told me about Carnaval in the Mission, which is coming up on May 26th and 27th. This year's Carnaval is called "Love Happens! 2007". It is the 29th year for Carnaval in the Mission and they have it all, from ...
