cab it

Even though public transportation is sufficient in downtown SF, sometimes one just need a taxi to get some where in a hurry.

SF does not have the best taxi service, but one rule of thumb to get taxi is to go to or near hotels. Some of the major ones that cabs circle are Hilton by Embarcader, Westin St. Francis in Union Square, Marriott on Fouth by Mission. Even ...

The classiest happy hour: The Palace Hotel

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have a thing for hotel bars.

It started when I was five. My dad took me into the Hyatt Regency at One Embarcadero and bought me a virgin strawberry daiquiri and we tossed pennies into the big glassy fountain and I jumped on the plush couches and danced around by myself to the music being played by the nice man on the grand ...

Hotel Palomar San Francisco

Located on Fourth Street right off of Market, Hotel Palomar would be a great place to stay if only for its location. It is within walking to distance to Union Square, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the cable cars on Powell Street, Yerba Buena Gardens, lots of shopping, the Theatre District and, one of my personal favorites, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

Superb location aside, it has this ...

Affordable full day at a Napa spa!

indian1.jpgindian21.jpg

Imagine being able to spend an entire day at a Napa Valley spa for $75.  We did it.  And we'll do it again!  A friend of mine had just turned 30, and we wanted a girls outing but we didn't all have $200-$600 to blow on something as unessential as a spa day.  So being the genius' we are, we ...

A Local Vacation for this Local at the Hotel Nikko

On a "vacation away" to the great town of San Francisco, I had the chance to stay at the Hotel Nikko. Now I didn't know this is where I was going to stay, being that my only requirement for the trip "away" was a bathtub. Due to master P's diligence, I was lucky enough to get a room with a view AND a separate tub and shower which allowed me ...

Private Romantic Escape To The Mendocino Coast

Schooners Gulch Beach Collage

One of the many perks of living in (or visiting) California is proximity to a plethora of beautiful remote romantic get-away spots. Just jump on Highway 1, head in either direction (north or south) and you will be sure to find some hidden nook or cranny that is home to a sleepy little town full of spectacular views, cozy B&B's and fresh local seafood.

Take a Safari Adventure in the Heart of California Wine Country

Just over an hour's drive north of San Francisco you will find all the beauty and bounty of the Sonoma Valley (aka Wine Country) unfold before your eyes. Traditionally known for the grand variety of award winning wineries and rolling vineyards, Wine Country isn't just for grown-ups. There are plenty of activities to be found fit for the whole family to enjoy.

The Licking GiraffeOne of these fabulous family friendly activities is the well kept Santa Rosa secret: Safari West, a 400 acre wildlife preserve specializing in endangered and extinct-in-the-wild African animals including but not only: Cheetahs, Zebras, over 20 different species of Antelope, a White Rhino as well as a couple different species of Ibis.

San Francisco's Haunted Hotels

One of the most curious things about hotels in San Francisco is that a great number of them have been reported to be haunted at one time or another.  Some of them actually pride themselves on the haunted activity which takes place there, creating shrines to the famous ghosts said to lurk within the halls and acting as hosts to local ghost tours ...
