Even Cheaper Tickets to See the Oakland A's

I'll be the first to admit that Boston fans are hilarious, even admirable --- when playing against the Yankees. However, when Boston fans come to Oakland, their heckling isn't really all that charming. It's drunken, rude, and incoherent most of the time. Yes, they’ll even drunkenly heckle their own team.
(Alleged adulterer Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees was greeted by a sea of blond-haired masks at ...

San Francisco MOMA's New Photo Exhibit

For those who live in silver, The SF Museum of Modern Art opened the new photography exhibit, Martin Munkacsi: Think While You Shoot! this past Saturday. The exhibition will be on display until Sunday, September 16, 2007, bringing to light more than 125 pictures, magazine spreads, as well as print layouts spanning the 1920s through the 1940s, and providing a rare opportunity to view a ...

The best movie-going experience. Ever.

I'd heard about the Parkway forever. Some mystical, magical place that played first-run movies, served pizza and most magical of all, offered beer to its movie-going patrons.

Needless to say I was skeptical. The fact that this wonderland was located in Oakland didn't help to convince me. Oakland is, like, totally FAR.

But at last, in the tow of the two people who had proselytized to me most enthusiastically about the ...

Mangrosa in Northbeach of San Francisco

What makes a 4 1/2 star restaurant any different than a 5 star restaurant? Mangrosa, an Italian/Brazilian restaurant in the Northbeach neighborhood of San Francisco was voted a 4 ½ star rating on Cityseach and is described in the SF Zagat Guide as “where the beautiful people go”. Zagat is on the money — Citysearch could have done a little better.

Where to find/avoid tween-agers: An adult's night out in SOMA.

This is not generally the venue for snarkiness and curmudgeonly griping, but in this case it's just irresistable. In the interest of fairness, I'll say that the bad things I have to say about the Holy Cow may very well be the result of my (relatively) advanced age of 32. Maybe a 21-year-old would enjoy the top-40 hits of the '80s and '90s, the hoochie mama vibe, the leering, pimply, ...

The Castro Theatre Experience

Castro Theatre PicWith its emblematic sign in the heart of San Francisco's gay district, the Castro Theatre is landmark with an impressive facade, but one really needs to venture inside to get the true Castro experience.

Built in 1922 and registered as a historical San Francisco landmark in 1977, the exterior design was modeled loosely on the ...

On Beautiful Days When You Can't Watch a Ball Game.

Nothing makes me feel alive and free like stealing the good seats right above the dugout at a baseball game. Even sitting up in the nose bleed sections are still an exciting delight miles and miles away from all responsibility. Nothing like it in the world, but as summer eases in, there’s one more sport I have to get my fix of.

Carnaval in San Francisco - May 26th and 27th

Yesterday, I had my digital cable/Internet service upgraded to include phone service. The Comcast guys who installed the service were so nice.

One of them, Victor, told me about Carnaval in the Mission, which is coming up on May 26th and 27th. This year's Carnaval is called "Love Happens! 2007". It is the 29th year for Carnaval in the Mission and they have it all, from ...

Catch Some Great Flicks at the Red Vic

Red Vic Marquee PicOne of the few movie houses that can claim to be worker owned and boasts organic treats at the snack bar, the Red Vic fills its schedule with movies as impressive as its origins. With a good balance of recent second-run movies and older classics from the 1960's to ...
