A little bit of North Beach in, shockingly, North Beach.

North Beach is a changed neighborhood. Once the haven of punks and poets and other delightful local misfits, it's been overrun by thugish tweens with fake IDs and bad manners. It's hard to find an establishment in North Beach that isn't crawling with vacuous stares, bad grammar and worse fashion sense. But such places can still be found in this truly wonderful, historic neighborhood.

Which is why it is a superb ...

A little Germany in Hayes Valley.

Suppenküche is one of my very favorite spots in San Francisco.

Located in an unassuming yellow building on a tree infested corner of Hayes Valley, a neighborhood otherwise known (these days) for its over-priced, trendsetting, hipster boutiques, pricey wine bars and the waft of six-figure salaries on a street surrounded on all sides by a rougher and far less moneyed element, Suppenküche is a sweet relief from the prentension, if ...

A bar for a very happy hour.

The Tunnel Top bar on Bush street, atop the Stockton tunnel (hence the dark mystery of the bar's name is shockingly solved) is one of the finest watering holes in San Francisco. It is a funky, cozy space with a small, downstairs and a mezzanine and a narrow balcony that overlooks the ruckus below, offering a fine people-watching vantage.

The barstools are primitive wood affairs, but more comfy than you ...

An exceedingly delightful brewpub in the Haight.

I am in love with Magnolia. Which is lucky for my brewmeister BF who can't get enough of a good brew pub, and Mag's (as we affectionately call it) gets better every time we go. For weekend brunch the brisket hash and the creole crabcake benedict call me with a siren song, and my butt grows ever larger with every empty plate. The burgers are divine, the pizza's fabulous and ...

San Francisco Shines from Above

Transamerica Pyramid from Bank of America BuildingI can't believe I've lived in San Francisco for ten years and I've never been to the top of the Bank of America building until this weekend. I knew that the top floor restaurant, the Carnelian Room, was expensive and the food ...

Royal Oak--Dark,Swanky and Stiff--on the Drinks

Situated on the yuppie filled Polk Street/Russian Hill neighborhhod of the City, Royal Oak is a hidden gem of a place.

With plush velvet red couches and lush foliage, and dark wood scrolling across the ceiling, it reminds me of a speakeasy--it surprises you on the inside with its flavor.

They have a full bar wtih beers on tap and mix some strong drinks with company from cute and sassy ...

Closing Night Party for the San Francisco Women's Film Fest

I don't know about you dudes, but I would have to say that Wayne's World is the greatest movie of all time and has pretty much shaped me into the person I am today.  With that said, the 2007 San Francisco Women’s Film Festival concludes April 15th with a closing night party, co-presented by Bust Magazine and Film Arts Foundation!

Starting at 7pm at 111 Minna Gallery, ...

How to spend an afternoon in South Park.

It's baseball season again and though the SF weather is still at its schizophrenic best, it's still a great time of year to head to South Park for an afternoon or an evening, and it doesn't even have to be on a gameday to be fun. Truly, if you dislike crowds, avoid the neighborhood on gameday.

Whether you are wandering around and looking for grub before a game, wanting a ...

San Francisco Rock n’ Roll

San Francisco has not lost its Rock n' Roll soul, even if it's found unexpectedly in Oakland.

This past week I was house sitting in the lovely East Bay neighborhood of Piedmont and decided to visit The Uptown at 1928 Telegraph Ave – just one block from the 19th street BART station, for their Garage Rock night with friends.

Aside from Garage Rock night, the Uptown has a wide array ...
