Mangrosa in Northbeach of San Francisco
What makes a 4 1/2 star restaurant any different than a 5 star restaurant? Mangrosa, an Italian/Brazilian restaurant in the Northbeach neighborhood of San Francisco was voted a 4 ½ star rating on Cityseach and is described in the SF Zagat Guide as “where the beautiful people go”. Zagat is on the money — Citysearch could have done a little better.

After living in Northbeach for almost two years, I was surprised to find that Mangrosa is not only perfect in every way, but affordable AND two blocks from my old apartment. You'll find Mangrosa at 1548 Stockton Street (off Union and Green). In other words, if you’re walking from Union Square Park to Café Triest, you’ll probably pass it.

Mangrosa has created an amazing atmosphere of fun and elegance to fit their “beautiful” clientele and to die for menu. As the San Francisco Chronicle describes, "The rechaud is a great participatory dish and seems to sizzle to the beat of the disco music that blasts from the speakers around the sexy jewel-toned dining room.”
Drinks are similar in splendid quality. The CAIPIRINHA, which is a sweet/tart Brazilian cocktail made with fresh lime, sugar and “CACHAÇA” sugar cane liquor, will have you sipping slowly to savor every drop. You’ll want two, and if you arrive at Mangrosa between 6pm and 8pm, you’ll be able to catch their Happy Hour where their well and draft beers go for a $2, wine is $4, and specialty drinks like the Caipirinha are only $7.

Apparently, they also have a patio, which I never got a chance to see and what I'll be sure to come back for as summer approaches.
See you there this weekend – I’ll be in my 1950’s checkered dress and candy apple red heels.
