A Whole Lotta Burrito at Poncho Villa

Pancho Villa Street ViewAlthough other places in the states have burrito places, I've never found burritos quite like the ones in San Francisco anywhere else. That freshly grilled beef, pork or chicken or veggies with rice, your choice of beans, and many other optional toppings. All rolled up into a tortilla to create a chunk the size of a forearm. And with chips to boot!

Mention the topic of the best taqueria in San Francisco, and it's likely that a long and heated discussion will ensue. Good news, because there are some hot taquerias in our fair city, but my favorite is Pancho Villa on 16th near Mission Street. A bit more expensive than some of the other taquerias, the freshness of ingredients, the clean and authentic decor, and the colorful Mission location make this place worth every penny. The only downside is the line, which can get pretty long at peak dinner hours.

When I'm not too ravenously hungry, I usually just get a Super Taco, which comes with chips (like everything), and is pretty much a meal. A burrito is great if you have a pretty big appetite. Pancho Villa also has amazing seafood burritos grilled up fresh in front of your eyes, and their Agua Fresca is a refreshing drink made of fresh fruits or Horchata (a delicious sweet rice drink) that's perfect for washing it all down. After you are finished with your meal, if you're feeling particularly adventuresome, drop by Esta Noche next door and watch some high quality Latin drag performances. If not, at least you can go home happy you've got a taste of Mexico in your tummy.
