Yoga in San Francisco
I love yoga. It's one of my favorite things to do. It helps me be at peace, more flexible, be more in tune with my body, and tones my uncooperative hips. Before moving here from Los Angeles, I fell in love with Kundalini Yoga. Kundalini Yoga is a yoga that was performed in households in India.
Yogi Bhajan brought it the West, first to Toronto but since it was too cold there he later moved to New Mexico and Los Angeles.
According to one of my teachers in Los Angeles, most forms of yoga were reserved for munks who were away for many years to perfect their art form, but with Kundalini Yoga you're supposed to be able to realize the excellent benefits of yoga with much less practice.
I think that this has something to do with the way breath is used in Kundalini Yoga (see breath of fire) but the teachers probably can clue you in much better about this.
One very cool experience if you like visiting would be doing yoga at the Kundalini Yoga Center. It's in an ashram and I think the majority of the teachers are Sikh and are all very kind. It'll be a one-of-a-kind experience doing a different kind of yoga that you'll find invigorating if you haven't tried already.
