San Francisco Shines from Above
I can't believe I've lived in San Francisco for ten years and I've never been to the top of the Bank of America building until this weekend. I knew that the top floor restaurant, the Carnelian Room, was expensive and the food was not exceptional, so I guess I never felt like paying $50 for a view.
I had a friend coming to visit from abroad, so I googled to see if there was a lounge in the same building where one might be able to get the view for a miser's price, and there is! Well, I don't know if $14 for a pina colada is a miser's price, but it's definitely worth it for the view.
We walked in without a reservation at 6:30 on Thursday evening, just in time for a beautiful sunset at the end of a clear day. It looked like you could touch the Transamerica pyramid that's to the right side of the panoramic view. On the other side were the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands in the distance. The overall experience was spectacular and I highly recommend it. My friend was really wowed for his first cocktail excursion in the states.
