Ritual Does Coffee Right
It was more than a year ago when one of my roommates said that they had a friend who was opening a cafe on Valencia street and that this place was going to really focus on the coffee - the picking, roasting and brewing - for optimal taste. They were referring to Ritual Coffee Roasters, and wow were they right!
I am decidedly plebeian in my coffee tastes, and a good fresh cup of joe is all I ask of an establishment. At my recent visit to Ritual, however, I got so much more. They use a French press to get the most flavor out of their fresh-roasted beans, and I have to admit that it was crisp, fresh and clean. Not as dense as the coffee served by nearby Muddy Waters or even Peet's, Ritual's coffee seemed to me to be better. The lighter brew really lets the flavor really shine through.
If your tastes run more toward the latte and cappuccino side of life, you are sure to be taken care of at Ritual. Their baristas have won awards at regional and national competitions, and it shows in their perfectly coiffed espresso drinks that are said to be superb in flavor as well as presentation.
As if that's not enough, they have a slew of custom baked treats for your snacking pleasure. Coming from six different bakeries and individuals and baked fresh daily, there are plenty of options. Try out the specialty items like a chocolate cupcake with Gatorade frosting, mmm !
With free Wi-Fi, a clean and comfortable space, and a location in the sunny Mission at 1026 Valencia Street, what more could you ask for? Well, some say it's too trendy, too noisy, or too crowded, so if you're rebellious, claustrophobic or if you need a place to study, this is probably NOT the place for you. Otherwise, get in to the Ritual!
