Craigslist
Craigslist is the online classified advertisement web page which is used around the world today, but it got its start right here in San Francisco and remains more active and important to the community here than in any of the other cities to which it has spread. When I first moved here, I would ask people where to get certain things, and no matter what I asked about or who I asked, the answer was Craigslist.
My first apartment in the city? Found it on Craigslist. The ride I needed to go back home to get my stuff? Rideshare from Craigslist. The furniture for the new place? All off of the free section of Craigslist. My work in the city? Craigslist. My group of friends – nearly all of them from strictly platonic on Craigslist. San Francisco is a very “online” city and so the people who are using Craigslist here – from the employers to the personal ads – are the same people you see out and about in the city every day.
Whether you’re in town for a night and looking to grab dinner and a movie with someone new or you’re here for a few months and want to get a bike, a car or a sublet, Craigslist is the place to get it.
