Writers With Drinks: SF Literary Event

As a writer, I have attended numerous literary events over the years.  I have been a frequent guest at open mic poetry readings.  I have gone to hear authors read their works at libraries and bookstores across the country.  And sometimes I find myself completely inspired by them.  But a lot of the time, I feel like I’m just having the same experience over and over again.  Not so with San Francisco’s monthly literary event: Writers With Drinks.

Take a group of local writers who all really like to perform in public.  Place them in a bar where the drinks flow freely and the inhibitions go into hiding.  And place that bar in the heart of a city which simply thrives on constant creativity and energy and tolerance for the ideas of others.  And you’ve got a literary event that is unlike the others which take place regularly across the nation.

Writers with Drinks usually takes place at the MakeOut Room but is happening this weekend at The Rickshaw Stop, an eighteen-and-up venue so the not-quite-twenty-one can join in the fun as well.  This month’s theme is “Writers in Drag” when local authors give readings in a genre other than the one they work in.  More information can be found on the Writers With Drinks web page.  Tickets are on a sliding fee scale from $5 - $7.
