Views of San Francisco

from Marin Headlandsby Kathryn Vercillofrom twin peaks

Today, there's a definite chill in the air.  Two days ago, there was wind that almost knocked me over.  But yesterday was one of those perfect San Francisco days when the wind was low and the sun was bright and the air was crisp but not at all cold.  I took the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the weather, and ended up with the added bonus of seeing nearly all of the best views in San Francisco on the same day.

First, we headed over the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headlands.  I've seen the city from Alcatraz and Angel Island and just past the bridge but I'd never been to this spot, where the division between the ocean and the bay is made by a strikingly large view of the bridge.  The city sat in the background as if painted there while I snapped pictures.

From there, we crossed back to San Francisco and went to the Fort under the bridge, where the calm bay water lapped the sand and joggers embraced the beauty of the day.  The beauty of the day was also not lost on the kite surfer who we later saw out at Ocean Beach, where the wind was more active and the waves more rigid.  Circling around the outside of the city, up and down the many hills, we wound up on Twin Peaks, overlooking the astounding architecture which makes San Francisco unique from any other spot in the country.

By the end of the day, I'd gotten almost a 360 degree view of the city.  I haven't made up my mind as to which side it looks best from since at every single turn, I was convinced I'd found the most photographic spot there was.  But what I do know is that the sunny days of San Francisco are meant to be enjoyed out and about because this city's beauty supercedes that of almost anywhere else.
