Harrah's San Diego Casino and Hotel

Last week we (my mate Jeff and I) spent a couple of paradisiacal nights at Harrah's Rincon casino/hotel. It was a superb time. The Las Vegas style hotel is set in Valley Center, about an hour's drive from downtown San Diego. The towering hotel/casino is surrounded by one of the prettiest mountain views San Diego county has to offer. It's deserty warm in that part of the county, and as soon as you step foot into ...

San Diego Bay

San Francisco isn't the only "Bay Area" in California. San Diego boasts a Big Bay of its own, from the northern most Point Loma and Cabrillo National Monument to the southern most Imperial Beach, the Coronado "Island" and Silver Strand make a bay that extends from the heart of San Diego's downtown in both directions.

At the north end, visit the Cabrillo National Monument to explore tide pools and learn about ...

Pacific Beach Boardwalk

The Boardwalk in Pacific Beach is a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. The entire boardwalk stretches for three miles from Law Street at the north end of Pacific beach, all the way down to the jetty in Mission Beach, just across the channel from Ocean Beach. The boardwalk goes officailly by the name "Ocean Boulevard" and ...

Bella Tosca Day Spa

Bella Tosca Day Spa is part of the Town and Country Hotel, located in the heart of Mission Valley, between Fashion Valley Mall and Interstate 8.  Upon arrival, it looks like nothing special, but the facilities are quite nice once inside. The Town and Country is a San Diego classic hotel, and has been around since Mission Valley really was a valley, and on the edge of both town and ...

Barb and Julie are enjoying a Jin Shin Jitzu – An ancient eastern Asian healing art of harmonizing the life energy and balancing your body, mind, and spirit.

Mitch called and is coming down for the pre-racing season -  it's only 11 weeks and 8 days until opening day. It seems he owns a couple of horses that are starting and wants to check in on them.

He wondered if the four of us couldn't get together again - San Francisco had been fun, inspite of the mix-up and frumpy antique shops.

I'm not hanging out in ...

The experience of food, like the experience of Art should produce meaning - where a hungry soul can too be satisfied and a distinction be made between eating and feeding.

In the glow of the twilight, Julie, while gingerly finishing a chocolate savarin with Grand Marnier orange sauce was philosophizing about her question, "what to do after a frumpy one night stand." This all brought remembrances to me of another shopping trip to San Francisco - it seems that we again had returned empty-handed.

Anyway, Julie had concluded that her one night stand went wrong when she realized her ...

“Sharing a healing mineral hot spring spa for two…. In our own private room….that’s what I call living”.

The Red Vineyard Vincent van Gogh

When the talk turned to, what to do next Jack was quick to point out that whatever it was, it had to be away from "Tourist Traps": That the Cruise had been enough for a while.

I knew just the place to spend ...

“…the fragrance of crushed grape hangs in the air producing a kind of hallucinatory beauty. Myself; I’m looking forward to an “Adam”- an energizing body treatment.

We are back in Hillcrest again; enjoining a fine salad, exquisite soup, and a bottle of chardonnay. However, Julie is facing a dilemma, it seems her cousin is coming to San Diego for a two week vacation, and she feels an oblation to show him around.

What does a Japanese wooden shodana, a young Chianti, and burrata with a sprinkle of Rosemary flavored olive oil have in common…

Barb was savoring Gourmet Tomatoes and Burrata Cheese - with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Shallots, aged Balsamic Vinegar, with a sprig of Fresh Basil; when Julie asked, "What is that?" Barb, pointing to the Burrata with her fork replied, "You mean this?" Julie nodded and chimed, "It looks like a very large hardboiled egg". Julie is from the mid-west and ...

My cell phone chimed… while Barb and I were waiting for Dinner “it’s in a shabby Antique Mall” I hear Mitch say. No, we were not “Geocaching!”

Barb and I were enjoying the soothing comfort; while relaxing at Croce's Restaurant located in the heart of the San Diego historic Gaslamp Quarter. While we were sipping "Tangerine mimosas" and waiting for dinner to arrive my cell phone chimed. I don't usually take calls during dinner, but the number calling told me it was Mitch and I was anxious to see if he had ...
