Veteran entertainer Don Rickles brings his insult-laden humor to the best stage in southern California on June 22nd, when he appears at Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay. Where else in the world is there a better place for an outdoor venue, breathing the fresh sea air and watching all the stars (both overhead and on stage). Humphreys by the Bay is a San Diego landmark; their summer concerts feature every genre of music plus big-name Hollywood entertainment.
Rickles is joined on the double-bill by savvy L.A. pro Joan Rivers, whose brand of humor is a natural fit with Rickles' style of comedy. Between the two of them, you can expect the air to be salty in several ways: thick with put-downs, audience insults, and hilarious one-liners!
Tickets for the Rickles & Rivers show are $70, available at Ticketmaster as well as the Humphreys box office. If you prefer your comics from the SNL generation, try catching Dana Carvey a few weeks later on July 6th. Carvey, whose appearances on Saturday Night Live include working as "the church lady" and "President George H.W. Bush" among others, is a versatile actor who is known for deadpan humor and witty political satire.
A few ground rules for the outdoor concert series: no food or beverages can be brought into the venue. The entire area of the concert is non-smoking. (Does this rule out appearances by the Grateful Dead?) Umbrellas, cameras, and recording devices are other no-no's, and the professional staff can be expected to watch for rule-breakers.
