Sierra College Students Blend Food and Family

Where can a college student take visiting family members when everyone wants to spend the day together, but there is a wide range of ages to entertain?  Sierra College students have several favorite places in the Rocklin area northeast of Sacramento.

Food comes first.  TOKYO DORI is a casual, family-friendly restaurant for all ages, that will keep the 20-somethings happy with its variety of edible art - "Maki Sushi."  Tried and true favorites: the American River Roll (with popcorn shrimp), the Sexy Salmon Crunch (with cucumber), and the Rainbow Roll.  For relatives with tamer appetites, there is Sesame Chicken or Chicken Teriyaki.  And for that favorite uncle who always wants something more exotic, they serve up squid, eel, octopus, and sea urchin.

With a big-screen TV, wine, beer, and sake, this is a multi-generational win-win.  Paper napkins and plastic tables make it comfortable; the food makes it special. Find Tokyo Dori at the corner of Sierra College Blvd. and Rocklin Road near the Starbucks.  Go early, they fill up fast (even weekday dinners) and they close by nine.   Before or after food, comes fun.  Try STRIKES Bowling in Rocklin to please all ages.  "This 'aint your father's bowling alley!"  Ultra modern and fun for everyone, bowling keeps the good feelings going, even if the conversation slows down.

Another Sierra College student favorite is down the road in Roseville. PERFECT BLEND CAFE is nice enough to take a visiting Aunt - or a first date.  The decor mixes old-world charm with contemporary touches. There is a TV to catch early morning news, and pleasant music overhead for lunch.  On Fridays, local artists entertain with music from 6:30-9 pm.  For anyone who needs to stay connected, they also offer wireless Internet.

Bring the relatives for breakfast or lunch, and let them find their favorite coffee or tea, an unusual bottled juice, or one of the freshly baked muffins. Sandwiches and dinner entrees are served on real dinner plates, and service is warm and friendly. If the weather is nice, everyone can sit outside on the large patio.

Perfect Blend has an extensive selection of coffee beans and bulk tea. For something new, try Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee or Snow Monkey Plum Tea (if available.) Best of all, besides tea and coffee, they serve Rip Roarin' Red, Hefeweizen, and a variety of bottled beer.  If you're lucky, they will have jars of Pumpkin Butter and their famous pepper relish to purchase.  And if you need a special gift, check out the Sculpture Creations by LJ Jack Conti on display.

Young and old will enjoy the food and beverages at Perfect Blend, along with a relaxing setting.  There is an outdoor fireplace for chilly nights and a wonderful fountain.  Just make sure everyone minds their manners and heeds the sign: "No Wading, No Swimming, No Feet Dipping."

Find Perfect Blend at the corner of Sierra College Blvd. and East Roseville Parkway in the Longs drugstore center.
