Step Out for Pro-Choice Rally Today at Noon

Today, Monday, January 22, 12 noon to 1:30 PM , is the day and time for the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Step Out for Pro-choice, a rally and walk commemorating the 34th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

Location for the Step Out event is the Los Altos Youth Center , 1 North San Antonio Road , Los Altos , which is directly behind the Los Altos City Hall . Doors open at 11:30. Deborah Rhode of Stanford University Law School will speak at the rally.

The short presentation by Prof. Rhode was followed by questions and answers.
One of the participants asked if there is some middle ground that could be sought by followers of Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life. Rhode replied that the generally agreed upon middle ground is to promote making "Abortions safe and unnecessary". In order for that to statement to become feasible, birth control has to be readily available.

Rhode also pointed out the flaws in the existing labels. Most "Pro-Choice" proponents consider that they are indeed supports of life--of the existing life of the mother and in many cases of her other existing children.
