New Year's Resolutions

Tomorrow will mark the end of 2008 and the beginning of a new year with new resolutions and promises-lose that 10 pounds, exercise more, stop smoking, get down the credit card debt. Let's be realistic about this-if you have not done any of these things by now-what makes you think a new date on the calender is going to get you going? Just asking.

However it you want to ...

Newport Beach Public Library

The Newport Beach Public Library is one of my favourite places to spend time. They have an amazing collection of books, magazines, CD's, DVD and IPODs with books on tapes. While nothing beats reading a book, books on tape is a great way to pass a drive.

In addition to their collection, the library hosts a wide variety of programs with guest lecturers.

With 4 branches in their ...

As the name implies Roger's is a garden store-while the plants and flowers ...

Mayflower, Mayflower

Everyone knows the story of the Mayflower.  Or at least we think we know the Mayflower's story, it is the story of the ship that the Pilgrims arrived on.   The Pilgrims arriving on Plymouth rock is just the beginning of the Mayflower's story.

Nathaniel Philbrick (author of In the Heart of the Sea) has written a wonderful story about the Mayflower and it's passengers.  In the Heart of the Sea is ...

Halloween at Balboa Island

If you want to be spooked by ghosts and goblins take a walk around Balboa Island.  The island definately has island fever.  For Halloween most of the homes along the boardwalk decorate their house with witches and bats, ghosts and goblins.

On Halloween night everyone on the island dresses up.  I mean everyone.  Parents mimic their children's costumes.  Adults also partake in the festivities dressed up in their favourite costume as ...
