Protesting "Rent"

The supposed amazing part of living in a democracy is that individuals can speak their mind. Citizens of the US are free to express their opinions without retaliation or imprisonment. I am a firm believer in this aspect of democracy.

All said I am quite tired of the opponents of equal right for gays and lesbians or the apparent ...

Social Networking and Facebook

I understand that social networking is the "in" 2008 hip event and way to be but I do not completely understand it. Facebook is the place to be. I see the value of it and comprehend the staying in touch. Hey our 44th president, Obama could not give up his blackberry. There is something to be said about having a hip president-who is in touch ...

$60 Million for a New City Hall??????????

You have to be joking. People are losing their jobs, being asked to take time off from work without pay and the City of Newport Beach wants to spend $60 MILLION on a new city hall. There have been numerous complaints from boat owners in the city as the harbor has tripled the fees in the last few years to raise the money.

The Back Bay which serves the needs ...

Bleak or Bright?????????

I am not really sure what to think about the economy. Everytime I open up the newspaper there are headlines screaming "A Bleak Picture for Big Studios", Rose Parade "Optimism blooms for a day at least". The malls are empty and I am not sure if anyone feels like spending money. That is except for the City of Newport Beach.
Just yesterday there was a story in the ...

Proposition 8 Leads to Fight amongst Hopefully usually Civil Individuals

Today's Daily Pilot ran a story about a local physician and business man getting into a physical altercation over the removal of a Prop. 8 sign on public property. For those of you that do not reside in California Proposition 8, advocates amending that allows gays to marry. Yes on 8 means you want the law repealed, no on 8 means leave the law as it is-you are ...

Another City has Money to Burn

A few years ago the City of Newport Beach painted their police cars white. It was in keeping with the coastal theme. Now that time has passed it has been decided that white is not professional for a police car-so for $20,000 they are painting the cars back to black.

Call me next time you decided to spend money wastefully. You make a decision stick with it.

Summer is here

The red bathing suits and swim caps are a sign that summer has officially arrived in Newport Beach and the Junior Lifeguard Program is busting with young swimmers and lifeguards to be. Had I grown up in Newport Beach I would have been a participant of this program every summer. I am still trying to figure out a way to join.
The program is open to children ages 9-15 ...

Hats of to Chris Miller

It is not often that one gets to blog about a friend.  However a big round of applause is due to Chris Miller, the new Harbor Resources Manger for the City of Newport Beach.  His promotion was announced Friday in the Daily Pilot.

After years of dealing with press coverage and residents and much ribbing from friends regarding the barking seals Chris truly deserves the promotion.  Chris is an athletic outdoorsmen who will ...

Here is a strange news story that I have been following for a few days now.  For some reason police responded to the room of a New Zealand native staying at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach.  For those of you are not familiar with the hotel, it is an upscale hotel.  Check it out at www.fairmont.com.  Rumor has it the guest had been staying at the hotel for ...

Bank Robber found waiting for Bus

This past week a local bank in Corona del Mar was robber.  The thief went into the bank and told the teller he had a bomb.  I am not sure how much money he received given his threat, but police did not have to go far to find him.  The robber must have lost his getaway car or never thought about that part of bank robbing.  Police found the bank ...
