Stan Chambers
Last week I heard Stan Chambers speak at the Newport Beach Public Library. For those who do not know who he is, he has been a reporter with KTLA for the past 60 years. Yes 60 years. Which to me is absolutly amazing that someone would stay at the same organization for 60 years. Mr. Cambaers is from a different generation.
He returned to Southern California after World War 11 and went to school on the GI bill. At the time, young people were told to take advantage of the oppurtunities they were presented with and that anyone could do what they wanted. He considered going to law school but changed his mind when he saw the line for admissions. Good decision for many reasons.
Stan Chambers then started volunteering for a radio show on the campus, which led to his first job at KTLA. He started off at $1.25 an hour. To listen to him speak, it is obvious he had a wonderful time over the years reporting the news. However the true lesson of the evening came when someone asked him how he remained at the same company for 20 years. His response was simple yet telling. Be Flexible.
